Patch on skin - worried

AOMum14 · 08/09/2024 13:45

Hello,

For the last 7 weeks I have had this patch on my skin. It appeared quickly and hasn't got bigger or got smaller. Currently taking a fungal cream on it but having no effect. Not itchy and gets brighter have showering or bath.

I have quite severe health anxiety so please be kind. My worries are always worse case scanrio - skin cancer in this case.

I am 17 weeks pregnant also

Any ideas or reassurence much appreciated

I get all sorts of odd things like this. Most are mysteries never solved that eventually go away by themselves. I would not have thought skin cancer from the pic. Have you tried antihistamines? Could it be hormonal? If your gp is not being helpful, it’s often easy to find a private skin clinic (which mostly sell cosmetic treatments but may also offer medical advice) if that will set your mind at ease. My local clinic charges 50 quid for an appointment, which isn’t cheap but might be worth it to set mind at ease?

I'm not a dermatologist so FGS get seen. However as someone who went to get several skin lesions inspected and removed last year that doesn't seem alarming. I'm only saying that to try to calm you for the moment as you should always get a professional opinion. My private appointment me cost me 150.

im currently dealing with skin cancer and mine doesn’t look like that nor the example pics on the many pamphlets I have. But like ilovegoldies says though either go back to your gp because the cream isn’t working or there is the option of a private dermatology appt if it goes on a while and tou want a second opinion.

Thank you @Ago @Balletdreamer @Ilovegoldies. Your reassurence means a lot. I should probably mention that I have shown a pharmacist and doctor who said that they don't know what it is and have recommended the treatment. The Dr mentioned if treatment was not working to go back for him to see in person (he has only seen picture attached). I just have so much fear (probably homrones) and so had a moment. Thank you again for your help!

I have horrific health anxiety, so I get it.

that looks dry rather than fungal to me (and doesn't look sinister to my non-expert eyes).

so many weird things happen in pregnancy due to hormones. I would use loads of moisturiser and see if it settles down.

if it's causing you a lot of worry, get it checked for peace of mind. I'm saying that not cos it looks scary, but so you don't waste time worrying over it.

LunaTheCat · 08/09/2024 14:25

It looks like rosacea to me - hormones exacerbate.

jellyfish64 · 08/09/2024 14:35

Look into perioral dermatitis. I have it, it's mostly round the nose and mouth/chin. Mine looks similar to this. Mine worsens by hormones.

millymoo1202 · 09/09/2024 21:50

It looks like perioral dermatitis, you’ll need an antibiotic cream for it

lovemycbf · 09/09/2024 21:54

I've just had surgery by my eye/nose for skin cancer,
I'd had the patch of skin a while before I got it checked out.
Just get it looked at as it's better to safe than sorry
My cancers now gone but I have a big scar on my face

Alapotin · 10/09/2024 09:06

I have had a couple of different basal cell carcinomas and they didn't look like that, that looks more like a dermatitis type thing. I would probably go back and say the fungal cream hasn't worked, maybe you need a steroid cream but not sure if you can use that when pregnant
