With apologies, a survey because I am freaking out that something is wrong with me. How frequently do you poo?! Does anyone else get no urge anymore? I have been to the doctor and they very unhelpfully say I have no urge constipation and a pelvic floor that doesn't work as it should...

I have constipation caused by a drug I take. It has become more difficult and the urge sensation is less than it was. If I don't go every day I feel very uncomfortable. I take dulcoease daily. I used to manage with diet but it's no longer enough. I eat a very high fibre diet, prunes, flax, chia, tons of veg and fruit and drink a lot. Still not enough.

EllaSW · 08/09/2024 12:16

@Perroi have you been to a GI doc?

I feel uncomfortable if I don't go daily too but I'm told that it isn't "normal" to go daily and every few days is fine if that's normal for you. Not sure how frequently I'd go naturally if at all.

I'm probably not the best example for you because I think mine is affected by having an auto immune disease, but pretty much every morning.

Is the GP referring you to someone?

EllaSW · 08/09/2024 12:26

I've been referred and it was a specialist who advised the above. It's very difficult

Oh I see now.

Have they got a plan for you?

EllaSW · 08/09/2024 13:14

@PaillettenBedeckt Sadly not.

How frustrating for you!

I'm sorry, I wish I knew what to suggest.

@PaillettenBedeckt thanks for your replies 🙂

I have no urge. Ever. Presumably damage from childbirth although my bowels were never great before either.
I had manometry testing and my bowel just didn't respond with any nerve twitch until it was incredibly full .
I have glycerine suppositories prescribed.. use one every morning after breakfast and they usually work within 20 mins. You can buy them OTC but worth asking your GP to prescribe to see if they work for you.
I also take Laxido so that stuff moves!

EllaSW · 11/09/2024 13:09

@Sonolanona that's really interesting and it sounds like you manage well. do you feel it's under control? what is the manometry test you mention?

It's rather grim test where they insert a balloon catheter up your bottom and inflate it until your sphincter reacts, as if you urgently needed a poo. It's not painful just undignified! Mine didn't react until well past normal. I had my children very close together in age ..4 kids in 5 years (!) and we assume that the nerves got a bit damaged, especially as I'd always had trouble.
I manage well with suppositories,Laxido and plenty of veg and drink lots of water but it is a pain.. even the prep they give for colonoscopy doesn't work very well!
But do speak to your GP and try some glycerine suppositories. I'd not poo at all without them and would end up quite unwell quite quickly I suspect!

EllaSW · 11/09/2024 15:50

@Sonolanona 4 kids in 5 years is v impressive! I'm glad to hear that you're managing well. I wonder if things might improve over time as your body recovers from childbirth. Have you been recommended physio?

My youngest is 27, so I think that ship has sailed Grin

I have bowel issues so not a good example but I'm so bad it's once or twice a month.
