The never ending cough

My son developed a cough before the 6 week holidays up which is just now improving.
I started with it about 2/3 weeks ago, so many people have said they have had the same thing, a lingering chesty productive cough. Sometimes I get a mild borderline temperature in the afternoon. I feel quite dreadful with it. Seen 2 doctors about it and they have said it’s viral, no need for antibiotics which is fine.
Has anyone else had this?! I’m starting to get a little worried now!
Edited to add - my son was ok with the cough, mainly in the morning and evening where I seem to cough heavily all day.

Whooping cough?
There's a lot of it about

I did consider it but I watched some videos of the coughing sound and mine doesn’t sound quite like that with the ‘whoop’

Any cough that is persistent and doesn't go away needs to be looked at by go as it can be a symptom of something more serious

Oh gosh don’t scare me 🙈 I have been twice in the last few weeks and they are not concerned but I will definitely go back this week. Can you share more of what it can indicate? I don’t like to google these things

My son had it for 6/7 weeks. Doctor thought it could be asthma... But It was contagious and after 3ish weeks and the rest of the family caught it, including extended family, have had it for over a month.

Yes I’ve caught it and my baby daughter started coughing yesterday, only a few times but hoping it’s not the start.
Was yours a mucousy cough too? I’m limited on what I can take because of breastfeeding.

It's probably viral, as said, since you caught it from your son. We've been in one of the largest covid waves, it's been estimated anyway since there's so little data, because of large events such as Olympics bringing large numbers together and back. Covid is still causing quite horrible symptoms.

Last time I had a cough like that - about 10 years ago - it did last for 6 weeks. I went to GP at about 4-5 weeks and she said my lungs were so congested with mucous she couldn’t even hear if there was any infection- she did give me antibiotics though and it cleared up. I’m not a big one for the drugs but she said cos it was so persistent they may be bacteria.
I wasn’t really ill with it physically (or no temp or weakness) but the coughing fits were awful, I was finding it hard to catch my breath when talking etc.

@excitedforbaby9 we won't worry about what it could be as in more serious as it probably isn't but at the same time GP should take it more serious to rule out anything else .
