purple feet - bad circulation in baby?

Hi all,

I've just started taking my 15 week old DS out in a Baby Bjorn carrier, and on both occassions his feet have gone purple and cold within a few minutes.

It looks to me to be bad circulation. I've checked to make sure the carrier isn't cutting into his thighs, and it doesn't seem to be - do you think it's a problem with this style of carrier or do you think I should mention it to the Health Visitor?

He seems to really enjoy going out in his carrier, but his feet look really awful....

thanks

hi i would mention to ur doctor do the hands go blue or finger nails and toe nails

misdee · 18/04/2008 21:55

are his feet wrapped up well enough? babies do tend to get cold hands and legs easily.

oh and abetter sling is a moby wrap sling

The circulation in his feet is probably being compromised by the sling.

My son's hands went impressively purple/blue last week when I put him in the door bouncer for the first time!

hi all

Thanks - such a quick response!

I did take him out without socks - he screams if he is too hot and so usually by the time we've been in John Lewis he's done to just a vest and a pile of clothes next to him in his pram.

However, today I've took him to the village shop, and have wrapped him up more in socks and a hat and when I've got home he's still got purple feet. His hands were quite cold too, but he was sweety when I got him out of the sling and not particually happy.

I've got an alternative sling - a "Close Carrier" www.closebabycarrier.com
I've not used it yet as it seems to be a bit complicated!!! Maybe I should try this one?

I'll see my HV on Wednesday and will mention it then. He's quite big, and I do wonder if the sling is pressing to much on his legs - he weighs about 15lb now.

Hope I can get it sorted out he just loves being able to see what's going on. When I take him out in his pram he cries in the shopes until I take him out and carry him around.... not good if you want to pick anyting up .

Has anyone read the threads suggesting the prelonged use of these carriers is back for the baby's spinal development?
