To think the doctor was wrong

For about 6/7 weeks my dh has had a painful neck. It comes as goes and wen the pain comes in he is in agony and can hardly move until the ibuprofen kicks in. He can go 5 days with it being fine and then get an attack but sometimes it's bad everyday.
After about 3 weeks he went to a osteopath who gave some deep tissue massage but didn't really diagnose anything. It didn't help.
After 5 weeks I got fed up with it and sent him to the doctors. The doctor said he'd pulled his trapezium muscle and he should rest but not take ibuprofen.
But surely if it's a pulled muscle it would be bad all the time? He did some heavy lifting at the weekend and was fine but then suddenly today it's bad again and he could hardly move this evening.
He has high blood pressure that's not very well controlled and high cholesterol and only has one kidney so I do worry about his health.
So could it be a pulled muscle that only bothers him every few days but then is agony?

It sounds like delayed pain from antagonising it. I get aches two days after I’ve been to the gym.
He needs to completely rest it for a week, no lifting etc, and maybe change his pillow.

Pulling that muscle can take weeks for it to recover and it hurts a lot.
I ended up taking DD to the hospital as she was screaming in pain - that was a pulled trapezium.
Mild pain relief, good pillow, ice/warm packs if that helps. Try not to aggravate it.

But would it really go away for 4/5 days and be completely fine and then be agony again?

Trust your gut. Go back in and say you want other tests/to be looked at. It shouldn’t be agony.

Call the GP again if you're worried. But maybe the heavy lifting at the weekend made it flare again?
But given his other health issues I can see why you would be concerned.
