Need to write it down as keeping things in at moment.

DH noticed a neck lump 2 months ago. Told me about it a month later. He saw doc on the wed, referred straight away and saw consultant 10 days later.

Taken in 4 days later for CT scan and MRI, then endoscopy and pandoscopy 3 days after.

Have to do to hospital next week for the results.

Would appreciate anyones experiences in this. Feel like I have been hit by a truck as reading between the lines it doesnt look good. Well, not the lines, reading and googling his symytons. Seems to be as soon as the neck lump appears it's gone very far

Where on his neck is it ?

I had a lump in my neck, at the front, at the bit where it joins your chest. Turned out to be a benign tumour on thyroid, I am fine.

Overrun · 18/04/2008 16:49

I don't know what to say, except that I hope it works out for you both. Presumably it is possible that a neck lump can be benign, caused by something else other than the umentionable. Does your dh seem healthy other than this?
At least they are acting quickly, which I know can be worrying in itself, but means he is in good hands

avenanap · 18/04/2008 16:56

They are normally quick for things like this. It's not because they think it's going to be bad, the NHS can be efficient (sometimes). I needed an ECG a few months ago, I was seen the next day.

Thanks for the responses.

The lump is on the side - the lymph gland area. Pretty large.

When he was in hosp yest he caught sight of his notes and saw the word tumour, which is of course what they are looking for - but freaked him out a bit to see it written

They always check for the nasties first, then once they have been ruled out they can work out what it is. I hope all goes ok. Let us know . My mum's having tests for this aswell.

worriedthisistheunmentionable · 18/04/2008 17:15

Thanks avenanap. Yes will keep you informed. Hope your mum is ok too. Very worrying for you

What have you been told so far by the doctors?

3littlefrogs · 18/04/2008 23:19

Tumour just means "lump". Try not to panic - there are lots of things it could be. Don't google any more - you will only frighten yourself. Hope you get the results soon and it turns out not to be serious. Sending you positive thoughts.

ThingOne · 18/04/2008 23:31

I'm sorry to hear your news. It is very scary to see and hear these words used seriously

Try not to pre-empt the diagnosis. I know it's hard but the doctors will tell you what they know - they don't hold stuff back anymore, only try to pitch what hey say at what they think you understand and want to know.

Please do not google - you can get the wrong impression very easily. You can get some good information from cancerbackup and macmillan. But you can get better information when you know for certain what it is.

I'm a cancer patient so btdt.

emma1977 · 18/04/2008 23:36

As 3littlefrogs says, tumour in the medical sense just means swelling, not necessarily cancer.

Please stop googling- it won't help and will just make you more anxious.

I'll keep everything crossed for you and dh.

worriedthisistheunmentionable · 19/04/2008 08:41

Thanks for those messages. Will look at those sights Thingone as help.

Got appt through this morning for thurs pm. Going to be on tenterhooks till then.

Will try and stop googling tho I prefer to know "worst case scenario" and then at least am - kind of - prepared.

oh no, please don't google all you'll do is freak yourself out, trust me - my mum is ill and I've stopped doing it for the sake of my sanity

wishing your dh the best results possible and sending you lots of positive thought, am glad he's getting such good, prompt attention too

loopylou6 · 19/04/2008 10:16

Hi, maybe it could be just an over active lymph node?

worriedthisistheunmentionable · 19/04/2008 12:11

Thanks dixie and loopy.

Thats what am thinking they will tell us loopy - so am feeling more positive today. He is so healthy - never smoked, drinks couple of times a week but never more than a can, always active.
