What can I do about stitch poking out of wound?

Hello, I had something (mole?) removed from my back 2 weeks ago. It was cut out, internal dissolvable stitches were used and then paper stitches on top of my skin. After a week, my dd took off the waterproof bandage for me, wet the paper stitches and they came off fine. The skin is healed/closed. Anyway at the end of the line (which is in total about 4cm) there is a sharp piece of thread (?) sticking out. My dd cut it as short as she could with nail scissors, but as I run the pad of my finger over it, there is still a sharp point. Prior to trimming it, she tried to pull on it with tweezers to see if there was any give, but there wasn’t.

if she can’t cut it any closer to the skin, how could I stop this sharp bit protruding from my back? It feels like it wants sanding down or something but clearly I can’t do that! It’s irritating when I lean against the back of a seat/on my clothes etc

any advice would be great.

After my C-section I had the same thing - I had to pop to the GP and she dealt with it. Pretty sure she just pulled it out - please don’t try this yourself 😆
She made sure I was properly healed and it had been a good time since the surgery.

As per the previous poster, I too had this with both my c-sections, but I pulled them out myself in the shower! Prob not the best idea, but no harm done luckily!

I’m a surgeon. The only thing you can do is do pull up on it with tweezers to allow you to snip it slightly shorter. Don’t go mad , you don’t want to cut it too close to a knot . It will dissolve in time anyway.

I don’t think this is the same as the c section stitch though….

If it is really bothering you - talk to your surgeon - the GP will not know what they are doing / what type of stitch was placed …

Nurse cut mine for me.

I had this with dissolvable internal stitches also. It came free by itself after a week or two. I wouldn't go getting aggressive with it, the internal bit will dissolve eventually?

Thanks very much all
