Hi all. I'm sorry in advance as I know this is ridiculous and I know I'll get flamed as this is mumsnet. I have OCD so my worries/fears/ridiculousness all stems from that. I've had verrucas in the past and didn't have any breakdowns like I feel I'm doing now!

If you have a verruca, how do you walk around your home? Barefoot? Socks? Flip flops? What do you do when you get out the shower? Verruca to the floor? Flip flops again? If it touches the floor do you disinfect the floor? Do you live alone or with others.. do they catch them?

I have one for sure on one foot. This was manageable and I could manage not putting the verruca part of my foot on the floor. Now I think I've got one one the other foot. Not 100% but treating it like it is. I now can't avoid having one of them touching the floor! I've cried basically all evening trying to get ready after my shower. I don't know what to do but I know if I hear stories of others I can try and reassure myself.

DD had one for ages, just walked around as normal....none of us ever caught one.

@Verrucahelp I see a podiatrist a few times a year. I've got one I can't shift. They say it's really close to impossible for someone to stand in the exact same spot as you and then contract enough of the verruca virus to develop one themselves.
My DH hasn't caught mine and I've had it for years.

Hi @Verrucahelp,

There was another thread about this a few days ago and someone gave a really glowing report about this gadget.

https://wartabater.com/?srsltid=AfmBOoqa9_1qBfOZ-iw_3TLOq9eLpnXwt5rb6WfKLF_KhtE9kI_KLM_K

I've just ordered one.

My DS has these on his feet and one on his hand. We keep the hand one covered with fabric first aid tape at all times.

He keeps his socks on to avoid contact with the floor. When he gets out of the bath bare foot I bleach the floor afterwards.

Tbh the main problems seems to be the infections spreading on his own feet rather than spreading to us.

I think the thing is to get it treated asap really. There are private specialists you can go to who can be chiropodists or podiatrists. Microwave therapy is meant to be very quick and effective.

Silver nitrate worked very well for us too.

Good luck there.

greengreyblue · 02/09/2024 06:30

DD20 has one. No precautions. We all had them in childhood so I think we’re immune. Never caught them. They don’t even cover them when kids go swimming at school now( I teach in primary) so I wouldn’t worry. Times have changed.

Verrucahelp · 02/09/2024 06:46

@FindingOutAgain thank you! Silver nitrate is on my list to try but might check out the microwave thing too!

@greengreyblue thank you for your reply! I had them when I was younger (I certainly remember having them in high school) but still seem to get them now too 😭 whereas my husband and my mum both say they've never had one. I'm just torturing myself with the thought of the virus being everywhere now.

Have you tried the sticking gaffer tape on it thing?

Aerialpigeon · 02/09/2024 07:33

Sorry it’s duct tape, but there is info about how to do it online (nhs website)

Ohthatsabitshit · 02/09/2024 07:34

Dd has them and never really covers them at all and none of the rest of us have caught them.

NotMyDayJob · 02/09/2024 07:51

I've had one for about 15 years, I don't go anything different and no one else has got one. I have tried getting rid of it, but another one pops up in another place just as soon as I've got rid of one. So I am leaving this one alone and see what happens, but this bleaching the floor after getting out of the bath, it's just not necessary

greengreyblue · 02/09/2024 07:58

I think salycic acid was the way to go- it exfoliates the top layers gradually. DD has got it a lot smaller over the years. They seem to eventually give up but unless painful, I wouldn’t worry too much. People have warts( same virus) on the hands and we all touch doors and public transport. Far worse viruses out there. Our bodies deal with it. You can’t possibly keep up a routine that prevents any contact. Keep separate towels obviously . You could use a stick on shower mat to stand on that is then removed for everyone else and wear socks around the house to minimise risk. Ultimately it’s the OCD that’s the issue as you know.

Verrucahelp · 02/09/2024 13:42

Thank you all. These are definitely reassuring. I don't think I'll ever be able to walk around with it purposely touching the floor but I am going to use flip flops in the bathroom and resist the urge to zoflora mist all over the house!!

Thuja tablets finally sorted DDs.

Literally watched it disappear over days.
It's a virus and eventually your immune system should deal with it.

BabaYetu · 02/09/2024 14:41

Make sure you’re keeping up with your B vitamins and zinc. When DC were suffering with verucas the pharmacist recommended B12.

Verrucahelp · 02/09/2024 15:51

@BabaYetu I do take a multivitamin so will check out what's in it when I'm home.

@Munchyseeds2 these have just arrived! Should I still use the bazuka etc with it? How often did she take them?

I have verrucas from time to time and I ignore them and carry on as normal. I am often barefoot in the house, and my OH has lived with me 30 years and never had a verruca.

I don't do anything to get rid of them, I just notice one day they've gone. My first one lasted 7 years but more recent ones tend to be a year or two.

Verrucahelp · 02/09/2024 17:41

Thank you @Marinel I appreciate your comment!! What I would do to be OCD (and verruca) free and live like a normal person!

She took them as directed
We had given up on everything else by that point!
Might have taken I month or so, can't really remember

This is what confuses me. As directed is 2 tabs every 2 hours for the forst 6 doses then as required. I'm thinking morning and evening?!

Another vote for the silver nitrate pen. Was plagued with them for years, and tried everything. The silver nitrate pen was the only thing that worked.

Munchyseeds2 · 03/09/2024 14:20

After the loading dose take 2 daily
Hope they work
