Anyone know about CT scans?

I'm worried about my mum.She has seen a couple of neurologists about a memory problem, which she has had since sustaining a head injury 6 years ago.During that time it has got neither better nor worse,so the Drs don't seem worried, just intigued.Their only concern was that the injury might have caused a small stroke, which they are keen to prevent happening again. So last Friday, she had a CT scan done.Apparently, the results are going to be given to the head of the dept & if there was anything serious found, they'd be back in touch & if she didn't hear from them,to assume all was ok.

We weren't worried,as she's been ok for the past 6 years, but on Wednesday, she got a headache which felt like her brain was trying to explode, was dizzy & unsteady on her feet. This morning she is no better and although she has a history of migraine, says it isn't like a migraine headache. Now I'm really worried that there is something wrong.

I just wondered if anyone knew how long it takes these scans to be checked over & if something serious was seen, how soon they let you know? Her mum & my FIL both died of brain tumours and I've known about half a dozen people who also had them ,so this is my main worry.

Thankyou

Thankyou

IME outpatient scan results tend to take at least a couple of weeks. A brain tumour is a large jump to make, they are very unusual. If anything it may well be another small stroke. Did she see her dr at all about it?

they take about 6-8 weeks usually

ime bad news usually travels fast, so try not to worry

Thankyou both. She wasn't having these symptoms when she had the scan, they have started since,so she hasn't told anyone about them yet.

I know that brain tumours are supposedly rare, but I have known so many people who have had them, that it is my biggest worry.

I'm trying to get her to ring the consultant who referred her for the scan, but she won't..

so sorry to hear that your mum is feeling so bad. IME bad news does indeed travel fast, steve had his scan at 5.30 one evening and we had a phonecall the very next morning.
you are bound to worry but i do think you would have heard by now if it was bad news.
