I picked up a leaflet on a family fun cycle to raise money for the hospice and they gave a break down of the costs.

On average the in patient care costs £812 a day.

and he will have been in for 5 days!

Thankfully we don't have to pay, but if any of you have money that you want to use for a charitable donation, please think about giving some of it to your local hospice. they do such amazing things.

But what a cost!

they are very expensive places, steve did six weeks there last time, the care is amazing there, when the Doctor comes round she often brings a cuppa with her and is with us for up to an hour, there is never any rush to move on to the next person.
Gla Mr MB is home without blockage.

I spent some time in one when My friend died a couple of years back. I was so impressed by the attitude and atmosphere in the place. They not only looked after the patient but asked after the family as well and spent time with us.

I keep meaning to locate our local one and offer to visit - there were many people who saw no one day in day out.

love to you MB

Money well spent imvho. We have two hospices locally, one for adults and one for children, and they both do fantastic work.

Shameful the way they are funded.

Glad to hear DH is home MB.

Well if you are organising a conference/meeting in Birmingham consider this as a location
www.bsmh.org.uk/conference/ apparently all profits go to the hospice and a friend who went to a meeting there said the food and hospitality were great.

Glad Mr MB is back home.

Kath, is that on the site of the old Selly Oak Hospital?

Heathcliffscathy · 19/04/2008 21:42

love to you MB

the hospice day rate has clunked down into my consciousness like a ball bearing down those silly thingies, and it won't go un-acted on.

expatinscotland · 19/04/2008 21:45

i once worked in a hospice.

it was only a temp gig of 6 months to cover someone's maternity leave, but it was a life-changing experience.

glad mr mb is home again.

and that hospices are around.

KathG · 19/04/2008 21:47

Its not on the Selly Oak site but pretty close and about 10min walk from SO train station...

Hmm, I'm thinking, Christmas Swap. But we can swap charities instead of gifts?

Or give to Mr MBs and Mr OJs hospices instead?

Or Christmas in July?
