Can anyone help - swelling & dryness around eyes

Before I go to the GP/pharmacist I thought I’d seek opinions on here first!

Every 4 weeks or so I have a slight itch on my eye socket. This then leads to swelling of the eye socket (same one every time). I also get dry patches on my eyelids, then the swollen eye socket also gets a patch of scaly skin. I haven’t started using anything new, and the reaction is completely random.

Google suggests contact dermatitis, but doesn’t really offer a solution. Has anyone had this? Did cutting a certain food/skincare routine work? I would love some really nourishing skincare recommendations to try and get rid of these scales!

Tear duct that keeps blocking?

ScarletV · 30/08/2024 16:57

That looks quite concerning! I don't know exactly what might be happening, but you can try a cream to alleviate the swelling. For my (now gone!!!!) under eye bags I used to use many different creams and serums, but the products I was using contained ingredients that made my under eyes itchy and worse. I personally opt for a natural serum. One you could use is DermalMD Under Eyes. The company ships relatively fast and is currently in my everyday rotation!

Let me know if it helps!

I had a similar problem a few years ago, but only on my top eyelids. GP diagnosed eczema, prescribed a mild steroid cream, which saw it off. I sometimes have a flare up, it's stress related for me, and I use a very thin layer of Vaseline, which works. Good luck, but do see your GP.

Is your vision affected or do you get pain/redness in your eyes?

Pigeonqueen · 30/08/2024 17:54

You might want to have a google of Sjögren’s syndrome. Sometimes the tear ducts etc get blocked and cause skin irritation alongside general dryness etc.

It may not be blephritis, but worth checking if you're experiencing soreness and grittiness caused by blocked tear ducts. I get it from time to time and now use a special eye cleanser which helps to clean of all traces of make up.

i hope you get it resolves/treated Flowers anything around the eyes and face can be debilitating x

Thank you for the recommendations! I’ll definitely give them a go. It doesn’t seem to affect my eyes, just the skin around them!
