Help! I have been a real bitch with PMT lately - what can I do to help?

A few times lately I have really gone into meltdown with pmt

Not totally out of the blue, I mean I have had stressy things to deal with. But the day before my period I have really really got bad, into a spiral of despair and misery and self-pity really. And have attacked dh in a most unconstructive and negative way. He is very understanding but I really don't want to be like this. I never have been before (well very very occasionally but this has been 3 times in 6 months)

Does anyone have any tips for preventing this or dealing with it?

dh is usually quite good and ignores my PMT rage

I now have really bad period pains (which I didn't before pregnancies) and came home from work yesterday all pale and wan and he sorted all the usual tea/bed/bath stuff out while I lolled about feeling bloated

I didn't thank him however come to think of it

morningpaper · 17/04/2008 15:46

urgh yes period pains

DH knows when I hvae period pains because the say AFTER I've tried to lure him into the locked car with the engine running and a hose attached to the exhaust I start crawling around the house crying my eyes out and begging for drugs

What FUN to be the Baby-Creating Sex

CountessDracula · 17/04/2008 15:48

Forgot to mention did Gillian McKeith ages ago for a month or so, no PMT whatsoever, but couldn't live on that diet forever (unfortunately).

CountessDracula · 17/04/2008 16:10

I don't think I could do her diet either as I have Crohn's (and no willpower!)

Gosh me too. Do you think it's peri menopause? Dh said to me last night "oh good, you're back" - he says it's like 3,2,1, you're back in the room. I am horrible with it.

CountessDracula · 17/04/2008 16:11

Oh it could be
I will be 42 soon
Good point

I bought a top online last week in MULBERRY, it won't suit me, it arrived this morning and I wondered if another person bought it but no, was me with pmt

WideWebWitch · 17/04/2008 16:13

I am VILE with it, I really want to shout and throw things (and sometimes do)

CountessDracula · 17/04/2008 16:13

How bizarre!

Luckily I work in Camden adn Gap is the priciest clothes shop for miles

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 17/04/2008 16:14

Yes I can throw things
And be utterly utterly hateful and uncompromising and vicious and hurtful

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 17/04/2008 16:15

I threw one of these a couple of months ago and I really regret it!

WideWebWitch · 17/04/2008 16:16

Not AT anyone, was outside, at a tree. In our drive.

I'm not going to be much help CD as I feel that 'PMT' exacerbates whatever is going on emotionally. Personally I've found that when I'm feeling good in myself and in my life, I do get sore boobs, and usually find a way of having a little cry but no big rages. However, if I am feeling angry under the surface you can bet it will explode big time before my period.

You can try evening primrose oil (takes a few months to have any effect) and B complex is very important for hormonal stuff. Sorry you've been feeling grot.

CountessDracula · 17/04/2008 16:47

Well yes that's why I said that I have had stressy things to deal with
I agree it does exacerbate things
but I still want to try and do something to deal with it

moondog · 17/04/2008 17:35

I have never had PMT in my life.
Or maybe I am just permanently unpleasant?

Hmm...

oggsfrog · 17/04/2008 18:07

Since having a d&c a few years ago I've been really irregular (cycles vary from 10 to 54 days) so I can't even look at the calendar and think 'aha... due on soon' .
I'm 42 this year and have been wondering about the peri-menopause. My mum can't remember when she had her menopause so I've no clues there either.

morningpaper · 17/04/2008 18:09

oooh I missed Sophable

I have posted on the laura kipnis thread

AtheneNoctua · 18/04/2008 16:56

Sorry CD. You could always change your name and start a vile controversial thread on MN so DH doesn't get the brunt of it.

You can always pick a fight with me on the nanny threads for old times sake.
