Is this cancer? Please any advice?

Dear Mumsnetters

I posted a while ago worried about a sort of slow weight loss, obviously unintended. I explained I had lost about 6lb I think or so and whatever I ate made no difference.
After posting on here I saw my GP and had blood test, nothing abnormal showed.
By the time I saw GP I had what I thought was a nasty chest infection so although she said my chest sounded fine at the same time I was referred for a CT scan and given antibiotics, I just felt so ill.
Anyway the CT scan showed inflammation in both my lungs, suggestive they said of a chest infection.
Radiology then of their own volition referred me for an ultrasound scan of my chest..
Yesterday I went and was suddenly being asked about a lump? They felt my chest then scanned me.
The scan showed a lump in the pleural cavity of right lung and I now have to have a repeat CT while they said they will compare any previous MRI/scans?

Could this just be because of lung infection? Or is it cancer?
I have googled it, but has anyone had any previous experience of similar?

Many thanks if you have any input. X

We are predisposed to associate the word lump with cancer.
it is rarely the outcome.

I want to bump this for you as no one has replied, and you deserve some advice. I am not experienced with your specific issue, so unqualified to assist, unfortunately, but hope you can get some peace of mind.

The weight loss may not be connected to the lung issue. I have experienced a 6-8lb drop and been healthy, we are not alway aware of how much, or how little, we might be eating.

I am surprised you were given a CT scan if your chest sounded fine though. But thankfully they investigated further.. Is the 'lump' not a nodule? There is so much terminology surrounding such things that what might sound terrifying....may not be. My aunt had nodules and pneumonia but recovered quickly at the age of 78.

Do ask these questions with your GP though. It ought not to be a mystery to you, and this is on them. Best of luck to you, try not to presume the worst Flowers

Thankyou, I think my GP sent me for the scan because I whined so much as to how unwell I felt.
Since my post, either the lump is growing or I'm so much more aware of it, my daughter can now see it, it's visible now, however I have just lost a lot of weight again through a terrible bereavement so there is an obvious reason for it.
I'm practically a skeleton now so I suppose anything would be visible.
Thankyou sweetheart for replying and bumping. Xx

I'm no expert on this and think you need to get results from people who referred you / are analysing it but when I had breast cancer I had a CT scan and it showed things in about 8 places and none were cancer. In the lungs there was a nodule and they thought covid. The only other lump I had was in adrenals and they compared with previous scan and did another one and confirmed benign.

I know it's just that it is in the pleural cavity not the lung itself, top right.
I know it's ridiculous posting on mumsnet about it really but I think I was hoping maybe someone knew of a similar experience.
In one sense I'm past caring, my recent bereavement is so immense but I'm just thinking of my children really, although they are grown up I don't want them to experience any more pain.
