Chicken pox vaccine

cannot decide whether to get this for my one year old. I know most kids get CP and it’s mild but if I’m able to vaccinate I’m wondering if I should.
lots of friends in two minds so I can’t decide - any experience? I’m a FTM so never had chicken pox in the house etc.

I did it just because we were going on a big trip to Japan and my kid was at nursery and I didn’t want chicken pox to potentially cancel our trip!

chicken pox has been through the nursery now about 4 times and she’s never gotten it so I’m all for it!

will be getting my second child done once he’s old enough

Honestly have it....

I had it done privately at Boots for DD1 and will do the same for DD2 if it hasn't been added to the NHS schedule by then. It has been on the standard vaccine schedule for a while in lots of other countries and chicken pox can be so nasty with horrible complications. I'd much rather they avoid it or just have a milder dose if they do catch it.

I would. Even getting it mildly is throughly unpleasant and means a week of itching, disrupted sleep, time off school or nursery and work for you or DH. It can hit when you’re about to go on holiday and disrupt all your plans. And you never know if yours will be one of the unlucky few that gets it more seriously. If you can afford to avoid it why wouldn’t you? Also, the NHS is likely to introduce it for babies soon, but seems unlikely to run a catch up schedule, and more people are vaccinating, so there will be less of it circulating, meaning that catching it young when it’s least likely to be harmful is less of a certainty. You can book it at Boots, it’s very easy.
