blood in urine

my dd1 (9yr) was sent home from school this morning, as she was complaining that it was stinging when she went for a pee, and the teacher noticed that there was blood in her urine. I assumed that it was her starting her periods as i was 10 nearly 11yrs, when i started mine.

When we got home she went to the toilet and was hanging onto the toilet seat whilst trying to pee as it was stinging, so i phoned my gp, and she has since been admitted into hospital over night to keep an eye. they have sent a sample of urine off to the lab for testing.

But the doctors main concern was that there were clots in the urine sample, and as there is no evedence to show that the blood is coming from her vaginal canal (as it would if it was her period) it must be coming from her bladder side of things.

Does it sound like just a bad urine/kidney infection?? i have never (touch wood) had a bad water infection. She is well within herself and was playing with other children on the ward when i left (dh is staying overnight, as i am 8mths pregnant) her blood tests have come back clear.

poor you! I don't know anything but didn't want this to go unanswered. At least with her being in hospital you know they should find out what's up quickly and treat it. I have had blood in urine as a result of a urinary tract infection, which cleared up with antibiotics in no time, fwiw. Hope she's better and home soon.

Sounds like cystitis (bladder infection).

Unpleasant whether you are an adult or child, but easily treated.
