Mortons Neuroma - steroid injection - positive stories

My podiatrist said I have mortons Neuroma between 3rd and 4th toes. Its really painful right now. Ive been offered an ultrasound to diagnose for sure (although she said its clicking which means that it is). They said that if the ultrasound is positive they can do an ultrasound guided steroid injection at the same time.

The internet is full of awful stories about these injections. How they can affect the padding on the feet etc. Im scared it will make it worse. Im full of anxiety about it all.

Does anybody that has had a steroid injection for mortons neuroma have a positive story where it worked and helped rather than making everything worse?

Hi @Infracat I had this injection in both feet and it helped and didn't cause any problems. It took longer than they said to improve things but gradually, over weeks or even months, the pain decreased.

The doctor told me that unlike having steroid injections for other issues you don't have to go back to get it done again as it destroys the neuroma, although I've never seen this claimed anywhere else. But it's more than a year since I had it done and it's still ok. I'm not pain free but he said that I might also have neuromas between the 2nd and 3rd toes but the gap between those bones was too narrow to look properly - so that might be why. And the pain is really improved anyway.

I don't want to get too evangelical about it and assume everyone's experience will be positive! That's just my experience. I hadn't seen these scary stories about the procedure - probably just as well.

@raggycrow thank you for your reply. I honestly wish I'd never looked online. The podiatrist was very relaxed about it when she was telling me, like people have them done all the time. I've joined groups on fb and looked at threads on Reddit and its just full of people saying how nothing works and they are damaged for life by it. At the moment the pain is constant and doesnt seem to be calming down at all. But my stress levels probably arent helping either.
