DVT or nothing?

I'm just looking for some opinions on whether or not I should be concerned.

Some brief medical info, I'm currently receiving a monthly prostap injection and take daily tibolone HRT medication.

For the last two days I have a dull ache in my left calf. I can still walk and function but the ache is enough to be niggling at me. I have no noticeable swelling or discoloration and my leg is not warm to the touch however the dull aching feels different to any cramps/muscles strains I've ever had before. It's a difficult pain to explain and sort of radiates from the calf up the thigh and buttock to a lesser degree if that makes sense?

I'm not panicking but due to the HRT, I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has had a blood clot and started out with this dull pain, and if I should just wait and see what comes of it. I don't want to waste anyone's time.

The ache has been constant with no easing since it began.

I had one after giving birth to my daughter and I did have that kind of pain but I also had swelling and the skin was quite warm to touch. It doesn’t hurt to get it check up though x

BIL just diagnosed with sciatica and had your exact symptoms. Started as calf pain

TheLemonFatball · 17/08/2024 14:18

Thank you both. I'll try not to worry about it unless it worsens.

If you think it’s a dvt then waiting to see what happens isn’t a good idea. The clot could break off and go to,your lungs and they call such pulmonary embolism “the silent killer” for a reason.

when Dd had a DVT she had no symptoms at all until it got to her lungs.

Look up Wells Score for DVT. It calculates your risk based on your risk factors (or lack of).

Nursemumma92 · 17/08/2024 17:53

It doesn't sound typical of a DVT but it is worth calling 111 to talk it through with a clinician who can calculate a risk score for you and decide whether or not it needs further investigation.

Your gp can do a D-dimmer blood test. Hopefully that will put your mind at rest. If the test is high you'll have a scan.

How many times have you had covid and have you had it recently? That could cause a blood clot deep enough for your leg not to be red or hot.

I've had covid twice. Both in the early years though 21/22. I will ask for that blood test though thank you.

Dont think anyone yet knows how long the blood clotting problems caused by covid will last. Dont rely on the Wells score. The D-dimmer test can give a high result for a number of reasons so dont panic if it comes back high but it would need further investigation.

I had an unprovoked DVT a couple of years ago. It started like a dull ache in my calf and then as time went on it was like a throbbing pain. The pain seemed worse when I was sitting down or lying in bed and it kept me up at night. No redness, heat or swelling in my legs so my GP sent me home the first time I went in to get checked and told me to come back in a week if it was still bothering me. They did the D-Dimer test the following week and the levels were raised so sent in for a scan the next day.

I would contact your GP to get checked out and give you some peace of mind.

Doesn’t sound like a dvt ( more like sciatica). Perhaps give it a day or 2 ?

anyolddinosaur · 18/08/2024 09:27

No dont wait. And if the gp doesnt want to do a test a home test is £6 on ebay. Blood clots do not always present with redness and heat, especially if at the back of the knee.
