Tender lump in breast

Hello

Just after some experiences really as I'll be booking in with my GP ASAP.

I kept waking up last night and realised it was because when I was laying on my front my breast was really tender. I've found what feels like a 1.5cm lump on the inside of my areola. I can only really feel it when laying down so I think it must be quite deep. I am 39 years old. I am fairly sure it wasn't there 2 weeks ago, but I do usually check in the shower and as I say it's not as noticeable standing up so I could have missed it.
My period is due tomorrow.

Any thoughts on how concerned I should be about this?

It's worrying me as it doesn't feel smooth like a cyst is meant to. It feels all bumpy. I can really get hold of it, it seems to move away from my fingers but it is quite large, possibly larger than I initially thought. Trying hard to leave it alone now because prodding and poking at it won't help.

I'm sorry you're worrying. I found a lump a few weeks ago. It wasn't painful or tender at all and was bumpy, felt fixed and you could see it puckering my skin if I lay on my side.
My GP referred me on the urgent breast clinic pathway, which terrified me. The night before my appointment (was 12 days after referral), my breast swelled and started to feel tender. I went to the clinic and it was a big cyst. I had a mammogram and ultrasound and they drained it there and then.

Book in with your GP tomorrow. My anxiety was sky high and it took a while to calm down after I got the all clear. Be gentle with yourself and try not to Google. I found the charity Breast Cancer Now so helpful - I called their helpline in a panic and they were really kind.

Best wishes xx

Thank you for your reply. I remember my mum used to get a lot of cysts so I'm
Hoping it will be that. The bumpy feel of it made me think it couldn't be though, so your post is reassuring.

I am the worst for googling, but I know I'm not going to find a website saying 'no you don't have cancer' so I just need to stop!

Even booking a doctors appointment is a source of stress because I'm at work at the time I have to ring, plus will have my kids with me in the afternoon so will probably have to take them with me

Saw my GP today. She wants me to wait and see what happens after my period. She said it was free moving - not attached to skin or chest wall. But I wasn't imagining it.

I came away feeling quite calm but the panic is rising again already

I know I should stop poking it until my appointment next week, but I can't help it. This is the weirdest thing but last night it has all but disappeared. I could feel a slight difference between breasts but no definite lump... yet this morning it is obviously a lump again - am I going mad?
