I hoping there maybe someone who has knowledge of this and can offer advice.
My husband had an operation to remove a small bladder tumour ten days ago (still awaiting results). He was discharged on the same day but had to return via A&E the following afternoon after being unable to pass urine (he could initially). They inserted a catheter and kept him in overnight.
The following morning when he was discharged the consultant said he would have the catheter removed in one week at the TWOC clinic (Trial With Out Catheter). This is also written on his discharge notes.
Yesterday he received a phone call giving him an appointment for the TWOC clinic in four weeks time and was told it was the earliest appointment they had. He is uncomfortable, self-conscious with the catheter and concerned about the increased risk of an infection.
He is not one to make a fuss but this seems an unreasonable time to wait. I believe the NHS guidelines are for catheters to be in for the shortest time possible.
Is there anything else he can do other than be patient and wait.
Is there likely to be a private clinics that can do this.
Would it be too risky to just have the catheter removed without the 'trial'.
