6 year old dark red poo and blood coming out of bum :(

Boringthreadalert · 15/08/2024 22:48

Before I start, a very unhelpful nurse from 111 did call me back about this tonight after filling out the online form but she was incredibly rude, spoke over me and wouldn't listen :(
We got back from greece last night. 4 days ago while we were there my 6yo said that his poo was red. I went and had a look and the entire poo was dark red. My DH came to look and said that it didn't look like blood as it was.the whole thing, not streaks. He put it down to him eating different food although we both knew that he'd not eaten anything that colour. We told our son to let us know if it happens again as we may need to see a Dr.
Fast forward to tonight and my 8yo said he just noticed as they were getting their pjs on that 6yo has blood in his pants.
I went and had a look and he did.. not a lot but he also had small trickles.coming out of his bum
He then admitted it's been happening every day, wiping blood and red poos but didn't want to tell us as was scared of seeing a dr :(
He's not unwell in himself. Isn't constipated and is eating and drinking fine. The caller from 111 was telling me to give him more fibre and maybe see the gp if no improvement however she didn't let me tell her 80% of what I've just typed above!
What could this be? If it was a tear inside would it discolour his whole poo and would he be in pain from that?
Freaking out a little

As a nurse I would go to A&E as that is exactly what it is made for and I don't mess around with Children's health.

Butterflysunshine01 · 16/08/2024 00:29

Another one saying intussusception, family member had it. Can be episodic then get bad very quickly . I’d be in A&E.

bergamotorange · 16/08/2024 00:33

I would also want this seen today, so A&E.

Justlurking10 · 16/08/2024 00:34

Paramedic- I’d take him to A&E now also and would advise the same if I came out to you.

Pablosdog · 16/08/2024 00:37

A&E now if you can op

JFDIYOLO · 16/08/2024 00:44

Please take him to a&E. After a friend's time there, I'd say take pillow, blanket, book, etc but no food, in case treatment needed.

whosthefoolnow · 16/08/2024 00:48

Yes I think A&E too

Greategret · 16/08/2024 01:43

Why on earth aren't you taking him to A&E now instead of wittering on about stool samples for the GP appointment you're planning to make? Your child has blood trickling out of his anus and no history of constipation.

whyhere · 16/08/2024 07:23

A&E, for the love of God!

Cattyisbatty · 16/08/2024 07:53

Don’t muck about with this. Red flag to me would be the red poo which means inflammation further up the tract. My dh had blood pouring from his backside and it was a very bad pile (he did go to a&e after faffing w the GP and they were really good - then he got a colonoscopy within a couple of months - but he’s a middle-aged man with a known history of haemorrhoids.

Gooseysgirl · 16/08/2024 08:15

A&E immediately if you have not already been overnight

mammaCh · 16/08/2024 08:19

My daughter had similar, 111 told me to take her straight to A+E.

StopInhalingRevels · 16/08/2024 08:25

FFS what is wrong with some people?

A&E! Now! He has blood running out of his bum!

There are literally nurses on this thread telling you to take him immediately and Joe public are still there, "knowing better" ShockConfused

ThePoshUns · 16/08/2024 08:29

Hopefully the OP has taken the advice of the health professionals and is at A&E now.

JFDIYOLO · 16/08/2024 10:00

Hopefully the loud chorus of voices including medics telling OP 'A&E NOW' plus the silence from OP mean she's done the right thing and taken him.

JSMill · 16/08/2024 14:32

Hope all is well Op and your ds is being well looked after by the doctors.

Maidensauntie · 16/08/2024 18:41

I hope your DS will be ok and diagnosed real soon 🙏 Please let us know how he is.

ThePoshUns · 17/08/2024 12:59

Josietheboymum · 17/08/2024 16:12

How is your little 1?

coxesorangepippin · 18/08/2024 02:21

Hope ds is feeling better?

Pearl97 · 18/08/2024 03:11

As others have said we hope you’re all ok and you got some answers xx

paradisecityx · 18/08/2024 04:34

This happened to my daughter, she has ulcerative colitis. She was diagnosed at 4. Don't leave it

deeahgwitch · 20/08/2024 15:55

I hope your wee boy got sorted @Boringthreadalert

Boringthreadalert · 20/08/2024 22:43

Hello, very sorry I'm getting replying now.
DS was in the GP surgery at 8.45am the following morning. I also managed to get apic of.the poo he did that morning which was totally dark red again. He allowed her to examine him. She firmly pressed his tummy which wasn't tender when she did so in any part. When she looked at his bottom she couldn't see anything but said that as we'd been abroad it was likely he was naturally a bit more dehydrated an therefore recommended lactulose. She wasn't concerned in the slightest as she said he's been eating and drinking and certainly doesnt look like a poorly child. I was very dubious but after 3 doses of the medicine he did a poo which was normal and they've continued to be so ever since. Not a bit of blood in sight.
Thanks so much for all the advice on here :) I'll continue to monitor of course just.in case
