Vitamin question - idiots guide needed x

I take Vitamin D. I had early menopause due to cancer ( well recovered now). I have been advised by dentist to take multi vitamins and someone suggested L-Lysine as well ( as I kept getting cold sores).
I am trying to eat healthily - have lost 7 lbs with about another 21 to go.

can I take all of them - or do you have recommendations on what is best.
many thanks x

Why have you posted this twice?

I have been advised by dentist to take multi vitamins
Why? You are better off taking specific vitamins that you have a known deficiency in due to your illness, diet and/or lifestyle otherwise you are creating expensive urine.

and someone suggested L-Lysine as well ( as I kept getting cold sores).
You can try it to see if it reduces the number of cold sores. Though you should really find out your triggers for them e.g. stress, lack of sleep, being run down.

Just to say if it was breast cancer and you can't have soya just check the ingredients on any vitamins you do take as it might contain soya , solhar definitely do a a soya free multi vitamin but yes fine to take all together

CrunchyCarrot · 15/08/2024 17:50

Multi-vitamins are in such low amounts they're not worth buying. Individual is far better.

BobbyBiscuits · 15/08/2024 17:56

It's unusual for a dentist to recommend nutrition supplements unless you have gum disease etc?
I take calcium and vit D3 tablets, the chewable ones. That's for osteperosis and bone health.
I also take a multivitamin, folate, thiamin and B vits prescribed by the GP. This is due to anorexia and past alcohol abuse.
It really depends on your needs but if you're eating normally you should usually be getting all you need from regular food.
I'd say consult your GP about what you should take together. One size doesn't fit all.

Lysine is fine for cold sores, but if you get them a lot ask your GP for aciclovir tablets. Or get them off an online pharmacy. Life changing, seriously. I will always have a stash forevermore now.

I had been having problems with swollen tongue, sore throat and pain and blisters on lips. I booked an appt with my doctor - when I got there told my appointment cancelled as doctor said it was a dental issue.I went to the dentist - he has suggested blood tests from doctor to see if there is any other underlying issues - my teeth and gums were fine. He said if I didn’t take supplements then multivitamins may help.
I will try and get back to the doctors.

Vitamin B12 deficiency???

Julieace · 24/08/2024 15:25

Hi all, came across this post about taking multivitamins. Sorry to intrude. Certain vitamins or too much can affect your health. My doc told me to take calcium and vitamin D.

BobbyBiscuits ·
What brand, make do you take? Thanks.

sewingstockings · 24/08/2024 19:21

I had an extremely sore tongue with folate deficiency. I now take B12 and folate for it.

Julieace · 26/08/2024 16:51

GP sent me a reminder, need to buy them this week. She doesn't say for how long. Too much not good. Not on any supplements. Just wondering if any ladies here use Vitabiotics, calcium & vit D? I have high B12 in my blood test. maybe the food I ate and I was taking other supplements too.
