Twisted bowel?

Crycrycryl · 14/08/2024 07:46

I am aware that nobody here would be able to advise, however I’m just looking for opinions really.
Since yesterday evening I very bloated. I do get these quite often, always feel bloated most of my life ( I’m 51)
Had some red wine with my dinner and immediately felt familiar pain you get when bloated and trapped wind.
It got worse during the evening, have done my trusty stretches for in,,winding,,
nothing seemed to work., felti had fewer last night, chills, than hot.
In the night I had to get up around 1am, to go downstairs do some more exercise, managed to relieve some gas but it hasn’t resolved, It actually got worse to the point I’m not even able to walk or stand up as pain all over my stomach, especially around bellybutton.
Could this to be twisted bowel?
The pain is now everywhere, even in my back, up inside my bum. Don't want to go to Dr with trapped wind really.

@Greybeardy im very well aware here it’s just advisory.
Im going tomorrow to see Gp, so he hopefully will be able to examine me and advice.
I must add I had exactly the same scenario 4 months ago, my perimenopause brain fog made me forgot it totally, but I found it in my FB post literally describing the same issue in April and it was my period coming on, making it all like this, even the bloating was like that.
I'm hoping it’s connected to my non so regular period coming on.
Im also planning to have full Gyno examination while away together with ultrasound and hormone bloods tests next week as much cheaper there.

Ask for a CT scan if it is cheaper abroad (and you know the hospital) they pick up most things in that area.

It reads like travel insurance being invalidated is not a concern to you so at least that’s one less thing to worry about.

Crycrycryl · 15/08/2024 13:12

@i will pay cash, it’s about £50 -£70 max

@Crycrycryl from what you say it either isn't that, or it's at a very early stage.
Take some dulcoease/ docusate to try and soften the poo, if you can go for no 2 then it's unlikely a blockage.
Hopefully you'll feel better soon but do see the GP.

Yes I did go for no2 twice today, also had some wind (TMI😳) I thought it would get better as it seemed all was moving all but still bloated.

@Crycrycryl poor you. Go to GP, they'll want to look up there and stick their finger in possibly, but will feel your belly, and depending on what they say they should refer you to a colorectal specialist at the hospital if it's ongoing as opposed to acute. They may also ask you to do a poo sample.
I hope you feel better soon! X

Could you be pregnant?

Could you be pregnant?

Potentially I could as I don’t think I reached menopause yet, but I’m not as I tested few times this week in last weeks as irregular periods.

Definitely need to see a doctor. I used to get similar pain when I was ovulating some months. It was far more painful than any period pains I had and ibuprofen/paracetamol wouldn't touch it.

Orangesandlemons77 · 16/08/2024 11:45

I've had small bowel obstructions from adhesions in the past and have not (thankfully) been hospitalised in a while.

My symptoms do tend to flare up around my periods, the cramping seems to make it worse. I would ask about adhesions and in the meantime, watch out for vomiting / severe pain, I find symptoms usually pass and have been advised to 'rest the bowel' - just go on to fluids for a while if it gets back and be careful with roughage / fibre which can make it worse

I find I can get medical insurance ok for trips and I always mention my previous episodes

Crycrycryl · 16/08/2024 15:08

Update:
I visited a GP today and he didn’t Gyno examine me for the period pain I had but had a good feel of my stomach, I told him all about the horrendous bloating and period pains, he said that definitely is not bowel twisted but sent me for pelvic ultrasound, Ca125 test and also FIT test and celiac test.
Also he tested later my urine sample and they just called me that my urine contain red blood?
This totally shocked me as I have no symptoms of any urine infection ( I had lots of them in past) so gave me some antibiotics.
Now I’m actually very anxious about it all.
Why do I have blood in my pee?
Was the severe period pain I had on and off this week from my bladder?
Also I have lately some yellow mucous in my poo or after poo, not a lot but enough to notice.
I always had some yellow mucous on and off since I was very young ( in my 20s)
I Was told by my previous GP it could be from dehydration or anything really also had sigmoid colonoscopy in 2018 for a totally different reason - was ok.
So now I’m totally worried about all these tests and the blood..

They've done some tests which is good and now if you go back they will have it all on record so you can ask things and go from there.

I know it's hard these days but I find trying to see the same GP can be helpful, in case that helps you at all. Sorry I can't answer your questions though.

Crycrycryl · 17/08/2024 09:44

Thank you, I won’t be able have any tests soon as going away.
However I’m still very bloated, even after I go for poo/wind.
Anytime I sit down and stand up, I feel so bloated nonstop to walk.
I am really now worried that something is seriously wrong either ovary’s or bowels, the worst scenario.
Plus the blood in urine,
I have checked the result of the urine sample on my nhs app, it had Blood +++ only.
No protein, no leukocytes etc..

8008Bee · 17/08/2024 10:09

Are you sure it's not your period given you had period pains (the blood)?

Muchtoomuchtodo · 17/08/2024 10:16

@Crycrycryl make sure you inform your travel insurance of your latest update

Crycrycryl · 17/08/2024 11:17

@8008Bee that the thing, no periods at all. It’s all so weird really.
GP said that there not pains when in perimenopause, definitely not periods pains.

OP posts:
BobbyBiscuits · 17/08/2024 14:05

@Crycrycryl thanks so much for the update. Please don't worry. It's best that they're testing you and trying to find out the cause.
I'm glad it wasn't volvulus. It didn't sound like it.
Bladder infections can have blood but no other symptoms or the symptoms feel like they are bowel related. They will get to the bottom of it (soz, no pun intended!) and help you get better as soon as possible.
Wish you all the best x

Crycrycryl · 17/08/2024 14:46

@BobbyBiscuits thank you for your kind message.
Im on Trimethropin antibiotics now for 3 days and it feels like I actually have bladder infection now, or maybe I just imagining it..it’s not burning but just weird sensitivity in my bladder.
When I had UTI before ( many times) I always had leukocytes in the urine sample and never actually a blood.
Anyway when I think of it- last weekend just before the weird period cramps started on Monday, had two nights where I had to go for pee 2x per night and I even didn’t drink before so I was thinking at that time it’s but weird, but no burning or pain while peeing.
Also I am generally a such poor drinker, I can have only one drink per day and that would be coffee and nothing else, I’m like this for decades, I just don’t drink anything as never thirsty, so I wouldn’t not surprised about having UTI as I’m constantly dehydrated.

OP posts:
BobbyBiscuits · 17/08/2024 21:59

@Crycrycryl all things point to it being a bladder infection, I hope the treatment works.
Of course if not, don't hesitate to go back and ask for a referral. X

Mindymomo · 18/08/2024 06:27

Seeing your update, you really do need to drink more to flush out your system. I keep a glass by my kitchen sink and have some water every time I go in kitchen, I hate water, but know you should drink a lot. I go by what colour my wee is and whether it’s cloudy and try to drink more water to get it almost clear.

Yeah, true, my pee is always dark yellow , my skin is literally shrunken like I’m 90 yrs old.
I am so bad with the drinking, I always promise to myself that I will be drinking more and by the time I realised it's already evening and I had no drink, I just give up and thinking oh well..

BobbyBiscuits · 18/08/2024 12:04

@Crycrycryl even if it's pop or cordial or juice, or soup, it still counts, but just get into the habit of sipping water/liquid all the time. Dehydration also causes bowel issues as well. If you're hungry, drink a big glass of water before you eat. Thirst can be confused for hunger.
My mum's volvulus was put down partly to needing more liquid.

UpUpUpU · 18/08/2024 12:15

OP, based on your recent update on your chronic dehydration, this is likely the causes. You digestion will Not function without water, causing bloating and constipation. PLEASE set yourself a target to drink more, especially in Africa!

Lougle · 18/08/2024 15:58

Given your updates, you're quite likely to be constipated. The reason you're still going to the toilet is that you're so full of poo that it literally has to come out, but there will still be lots remaining. You need to drink half a pint of water every hour while you're awake, and eat plenty of fibre. If you can get laxido where you are, that would be good.
