Abnormal cells smear test

Summernightsinthe21stcentury · 13/08/2024 22:52

My relative is 32 years old, and has been recalled after a smear test.
She had the colposcopy today and apparently there are cells with grade 2 issues.
Unfortunately she was unable to follow what happens next, can anybody advise?
Thank you!

She didn't tell anyone she'd been recalled, and was all over the place today.
The clinician has told her it's a 2 on their scale but we don't know what that means.
If it is CIN2, she should be ok I guess. She has had the HPV vaccine.

She’ll probably be given LEEP/LETZ treatment and they’ll do a biopsy of the removed tissue to make sure the changes are as they’d suspected and they’ve caught it all. After that she’ll probably have to attend Colposcopy clinic annually for five years to keep an eye on it.

Thank you @Anonym00se so we shouldn't worry too much at this stage?

Try not to, it really is quite common and treatable. It’s not a pleasant procedure but it’s not painful. The staff at the clinic were lovely. I was told I had CIN3 changes from my smear, but the biopsy showed it was only CIN2. They said that changes are often downgraded at biopsy.

Thank you so much @Anonym00se that is very positive.
I hope you are well now too!

I had abnormal cells. They kept an eye on them with regular smears for a couple of years but they didn’t go away, so I had an outpatient op to remove them. That was over 20 years ago and I’m fine.
