I'm waiting for some info to be posted from GP cause ds's ferritin levels have come back as slightly low. Being impatient to know what this is all about I googled it (inbetween feeding ds with red meat!!) and it's now got me all on edge cause it mentions ADHD, I wish I hadn't googled now [paranoid emoticon]
Can anyone enlighten me until the post arrives tomorrow!!

ferritin is iron....perhaps shes bit aneamic???

has she been poorly lately?

kjaysmum · 16/04/2008 07:29

He's not aneamic, they were testing his blood as he has a recurring eczema type skin condition, but other that that he's very healthy.

Thanks for the suggestion though, I guess I just have to be patient and wait for the doctors explanation.....

It is iron and it seems 'anemia' ,'restless leg syndrome' and 'chronic fatigue' could be problems caused by iron deficieny.
Where did you get the adhd from?

That's behavioural anyways so if gp suspected adhd they would probably refer to a pediatrician and not send off for iron levels. And that would come from you/school raising questions about behaviour/development. Not from eczema.

Don't believe everything you see on the internet.

Maybe someone believes that iron is a 'cure/relieves symptoms' for adhd.

no of course I didn't believe the internet, it's just over here where I live, when you put "ferritin in children" into google, instead of getting something useful back, you get research on how children with Adhd have been found to have lower ferritin levels...my ds is three and very challenging at times, as are many boys of this age. The reason for my starting this thread was, as you point out, that the internet can frighten and mislead.
I was hoping someone could suggest as to why they tested for ferritin for an eczema condition other than that I was just sharing a wee spot of paranoia!
roll on the postie arriving!

i think just part of the testing is the ferretin levels in blood so although that wasnt what the doc requested as part of full blood test thats what came back .....
