Cyst removal on throat

I had a croaky voice wasn't sore but It was horrible so today I went for my appointment at ENT at hospital did the camera and they found a cyst and said surgery is the best to remove it. He doesn't at all think it's cancer he thinks it's beign or something which I haven't a clue what that is. But had anyone had a similar experience? I've never ever been put to sleep before and it's that what's scaring me

Hi op, I had a tumour growing in my salivary gland, so had the gland & tumour removed last Jan. They cut from the bottom of my ear and down to my throat, as they said that was the safest way, as there's lots of nerves around the throat that they didn't want to risk cutting, so went in from side ways making a slit down from the ear, if that makes sense. The surgeons were good and everyone puts you at ease, you're in safe hands, I'm sure you will be fine. It's probably a pesky benign cyst and will be easy to remove for you. My recovery was fine, just eat soup for a few days, take all the pain killers they give you on time to make it as comfortable as possible, and rest as much as you can x

Thank-you for that. Do you have a big scar? I think there going through my throat it's not big or anything. It's being put to sleep I'm so scared off never ever had it done x

If it's a cyst on your cords or close by it'll most likely be an 'endoscopic' procedure - camera down the throat under GA and the cyst removed that way. It's fairly common day case surgery.

Hi yeah it's on my vocal chords I'm sure off it, he said it would be around 10/15m procedure so roughly if I was to be put to sleep at 9am when would I be awake ?

Sorry I'm so scared because I've never been out to sleep x

there's usually 10-15mins or so after going to sleep before they start an operation. After turning the anaesthetic off most people are awake after a few mins, but a lot of people don't remember that time. Re. voice changes, you'll have to ask the surgeon.

I have a very thin clear looking scar, that you wouldn't notice unless you were looking closely, it's never bothered me. Looking at the others comments it seems yours will not even be as invasive as mine was, so hopefully I haven't scared you as mine was a different surgery. You will probably be a day case if you are feeling fine, and have someone to look after you at home. Although they may tell you to bring your bags just incase. Tell them it's your first time and how nervous you are and they may give you something to calm your nerves.
