Hi, we are taking our 5 month old for his cleft lip repair at Booth Hall, Manchester next week and I wondered if anyone else' child has had this operation or has had an operation at Booth Hall. Any advice or things we should expect? Thanks.

good luck! your thread title just caught my eye, my palate repair was done - perfectly, 35 years ago at Alder Hey. which is pretty irrelevant to you, but I wondered if you'd been in touch with CLAPA (cleft lip and palate association)? I know many many people who have had lip and/or palate repairs, and once the surgery is done the results are fabulous.

Hi, we have been on the CLAPA website and the results look fab. A cleft lip nurse has been seeing us on a regular basis but I just wondered if anyone has had it done, Im getting a bit nervous about it all now. My little baby is going to look so different and I love his little face!!!

My Mum has a cleft lip - but not palatte.

Her repair was not that fantastic, and she has been offered the chance to have it "re-done" many times, but never has.....

When my 5dc, and my nephew were born she was very worried about them having it, but none of them have.

She is one of 8 children, and 3 of them have cleft lips.

If you don't mind me asking, do any of your other family have one?

There is nobody on mine or my husbands side that has a cleft lip.

Thanks for your replies, its really reassuring to hear good things about the hospital. I'm just getting really nervous about it all. They are so helpless at this age aren't they but it will be so better for him when its done. Hope everything goes well with your dss mum2jakeyroo.

Have you any tips on things to take with us or where is best to get food whilst we are there? Is there a supermarket near by?

Hi my ds had a cleft lip repair when he was 8 weeks old at addenbrookes cambridge. I know how you feel when you say you love his face as it is but he really didn't look much different to me as his mum after the surgery! I found the hardest part seeing him in the recovery room afterwards so prepare yourself for him to look at bit sorry at that point. It is a crap few days but hang in there, the outcome is really worthwhile my ds is now 2 yrs old and no one can even tell he had a cleft so I know he won't be getting picked on at school etc for it. I wish you and your ds all the best.
