Oxygen on plane

Hi. I have bronchiectasis and now require oxygen to fly. How does one go about organising this? Is a portable oxygen compressor better? If so, has anyone bought/hired one? Any advice welcome. Thank you.

You need to speak to the airline before you book and find out what their rules are/advice is. They should be able to let you know what devices they allow, what paperwork is needed, etc.

Have you got a flight booked? I haven't personally had to use oxygen on a plane but we had to book assistance for a Ryanair flight and called their assistance line who were very helpful.

For example here it has FAQs including about portable oxygen concentrators:

I’d check out the Asthma+Lung UK stuff about flying with oxygen. They include a link in there to their web community where you’ll more likely find other people to chat to who’ve flown with oxygen.

Have you access to a nursing team who might be able to advise? My lung scarring is so minor it barely qualifies as bronchiectasis at all, I’m just under the severe asthma team, so I can call or email the nurse specialists on that team 0900-1700 Monday-Friday about lungweird.

I hope you’re able to get it sorted with minimal hassle & that you have a fantastic trip.

Thanks all. Have splashed out and bought an FAA Portable Oxygen Concentrator. Just waiting for the GP to complete fit to fly forms etc.

Surely you still need to talk to the plane operator and your insurance?
