I'm 26 never had a cavity or filling and I'm pretty scared of the dentist ! I've just recently as of yesterday had tooth pain and I'm trying to prepare myself for it being a cavity

Thoughts ?? (On the side of my tooth)

Do you grind your teeth at night? That's a common cause, especially as your gums are very healthy. It might not be serious damage even so, as you can get incredible levels of pain from grinding/clenching through irritating the nerves through swelling of the ligaments that hold the teeth in.

They might suggest you get a nightguard to stop it happening again.

@NeverDropYourMooncup apparently I do and I do wake up with an aching jaw ! But as it was just the one tooth I was worried about a cavity but I guess it could be this too - thank you :)

If you have to pay for your dental treatment, you're looking at a basic examination + 2 X rays charge, then (unfortunately) up to £150 for a silicon mould to be taken and the guard to be back about a week later, assuming there's no need for a repair or extraction.

When I managed to do it to my teeth, I wore the guard during the day as well and I realised that I clenched my teeth frequently through the day, too - so much so, I would have to tell myself to open my mouth when I'd normally clench; ridiculous things like dealing with a wriggling cat (or child in your case, perhaps?). I managed to chip an entire corner off one molar on the other side which was completely painless despite the other side being absolute agony, but until the point that it actually breaks or decays, they're leaving it well alone as repairs don't tend to last.

Cavities are usually black so I don't think so

mummato1xo · 11/08/2024 20:26

@NeverDropYourMooncup the more I think about you saying this the more I think this is what it is! I definitely find myself clenching my teeth often!! I didn't think it would cause pain like this though my left side of my mouth feels very tender !

@Celia24 thank you! Hopefully it's not that then !
