ADHD - is it worth investigating?

I'm a 43 year-old woman, was made to feel odd, weird and a freak growing up as well as was told I'm cold and unfeeling.
Now as an adult I'm seeing things about ADHD is women and how it presents as I tick some of the boxes. However is there any point my asking for a diagnoses? I'm fully aware there is a backlog and on the surface it looks like I'm winning at life but actually I'm really anxious and a bundle of nerves.
Has anyone looked into this as an adult and did it help?

Hi Op,

I have worked extensively with teenagers with ADHD. I also have 2 very close adult friends who have it, one diagnosed as a teenager and one as an adult.

Many adults with ADHD choose to manage it without medication, there can be characteristics of ADHD that you may consider ‘undesirable’ but it can also aid in many areas including creativity. My one friend is a successful poet and play-write, all self taught. My other extremely gifted in languages. Some of the teenagers I have worked with have been medicated and some have not, I would say it really depended on how their ADHD presented itself as it’s different in different people. I am going off on a tangent but my point is - if you manage well it may be a pointless endeavour, you can easily find advice online for managing adult ADHD. However if you would like it to provide some answers or meaning to certain traits and characteristics it may be worth it. My friend has said to me he sees traits of it in me but I have never thought about pursuing it as it doesn’t negatively effect my life :)
