Hi all!

I’ve worn glasses for 12+ years now, and I’m going to specsavers for a contact lenses trial 🫣 I tried them when I was a teen but it hurt so bad I had to stop and was put off ever doing it again.

any tips / advice for getting on with contacts? Or what do specsavers do at your trial? Thanks :)

Modern soft contact lenses are really thin and you shouldn't really feel them much in your eye.

If you've not had an eye test for a while, they'll do that, then put a special dye in your eye (this doesn't sting) to check that you don't have a dry eye or a problem with the front of the eye, which could make wearing contact lenses dangerous. They'll also do a couple more measurements.

The the optician will discuss with you the types of lenses you can get, choose the design and fit which suits your eye and then put them in themselves. After they've settled, they'll check they fit your eye and that your vision is clear with them. If everything is okay, someone will teach you how to put them in and take them out and then you'll be given a pair(s) to take away to try at home.

Sometimes, if you have a complex prescription, the trial lenses will need to be ordered.

Oh well. It might need a couple of tries to get it right. The astigmatism lenses (torics) have weighted bit at the bottom and they don’t always sit exactly where you want them to! (annoyingly)

Monthlies are comfier than dailies.
i’ve work contacts for 16 years 🙂

i have toric lenses for my right eye and honestly they feel fine.

all in one contact lense solution to clean. Dry eye drops will help too.

also- always make sure they’re the right way round when putting in- blink to help them into place. A bit of practice and you’ll be fine

As PP said, dry eye drops are your friend - even though they can be a bit annoying.
I've worn contacts since I was 14 (40 years ago). Unfortunately I had a dreadful optician who encouraged very poor hygiene which meant I almost lost my sight. HOWEVER, I have worn gas permeable lenses for 30 odd years now. They have improved my sight and I find them super comfortable (apart from hay fever).
The current disposable lenses are really easy to use and comfortable - I wear them when I travel because I use peroxide solution which is tricky when flying.
Good luck. It will change your life
