Can someone pls help. We can't even get a private derm appt yet and worried my Dh is going to have to go to A &E
He has had a rash for a while the steroid creams don't help now on antibiotics but he says he feels like his skin is burning and worried about going into shock.
Does anyone know what this is and what would help pls? It's all over his scalp neck arms legs and back

Have you tried antihistamine, and fungal creams?

Why would you go to A&E - this is an ongoing skin complaint, not an emergency.

A pharmacist might be able to discuss creams that could help.

As to 'going into shock' - unless they are becoming systemically very unwell with signs of sepsis, then this is not something to worry about.

Contact your GP again on Monday. Continue the ABs. 111 is available if they are getting worse at the weekend.

Private dermatologist is a good idea, but it's not going to be quick - and their suggestions/diagnosis may not lead to an immediate solution either.

What did the doctor think it was, has it got worse since the antibiotics, any change in washing products, shower gels, does he feel unwell. Is it scabies. It looks very uncomfortable, did the gp do a blood test

longdistanceclaraclara · 10/08/2024 13:01

A&E won't be able to do anything. What do you mean by going into shock, sepsis?

Could it be this? www.nhs.uk/conditions/pityriasis-rosea/

Bellahadthese · 10/08/2024 13:25

He never complains about feeling unwell he tends to soldier on so it has made me panic when he said he wanted to go to hospital.
The rash has been consistently getting worse despite steroid cream and I think he is reacting to antibiotics too.
Dr didn't do any blood tests just glanced at him and asked him what he wanted. He said abs as we thought it was an infection. It could be scabies I guess.
He never had eczema as a kid but he does have a lot of stress. We went away last week and it seemed slightly better in the sun.
Thanks I don't think it is an A&E thing but it's worrying when nothing seems to work.

If its getting worse and he's feeling unwell and discomfort there's no harm in seeking medical advice, it could be scabies, antibiotics, dermatitis, allergy, inflammatory but he can ask for help even if it's only antihistamines, painkillers, ointments. Poor man, itching is horrible. Does he have any pain anywhere else, wee and poo normal colour.

Bellahadthese · 10/08/2024 14:25

No change in wee/ poo
No sore throat or temperature
I will suggest antihistamines we do have some
He isn't sleeping because of the steroids so that isn't helping
The course finishes today and he has abs until Tuesday
I've never seen him so distressed poor thing

Something that might help the discomfort is colloidal oatmeal baths - same as suggested for chicken pox, it's really soothing.

Old sock - load it with porridge oats then tie end off (or use hairband/rubber band to close) and then run a tepid bath. Put sock in to absorb water - squeeze out sock a few times into the bath and can also squeeze the colloidal oatmeal (silky liquid that comes out when you squeeze) onto skin.

It looks fungal to me. If it is fungal the antibiotics and steroids will make it worse which goes along with what you’re saying. He needs a second opinion but in the meantime I’d get some canestan cream from a pharmacy and try that.

AbraAbraCadabra · 10/08/2024 22:04

I have to say although I wholeheartedly agree with the PPs re the appropriateness of A&E. I have a DH who also soldiers on when sick and generally massively underplays his symptoms and is extremely reluctant to book a doctor's appointment (I haven't tell him to do it when necessary). I think if my DH says he wanted to go to hospital, I'd take him to hospital! The fact he was asking would concern me as to how seriously to take his symptoms. .

Was also going to suggest this along with Liquid Piriton as it can be taken throughout the day which is better than the one a day sort with bites / rashes etc in my experience.
