Weird fatigue? Blood sugar? Side effect? What could this be?

As I 'flaked out' (proper description below) I thought 'this is not normal what is going on?'

If you recognise any if this please help me figure out what might be causing it.

I got back from a gentle 5k walk this morning planning to spend the afternoon doing DIY and decluttering. After a sandwich, tea and a biscuit I suddenly felt overwhelmingly tired. Reading this back I half remember breaking out in a sweat at the end or soon after the walk, it's a warm day but I was surprised.

I had to lie down and crashed out very quickly, falling asleep.

The weirdness was feeling tired, lying down then feeling so exhausted I literally couldn't move but still conscious.

Fell asleep/'passed out' in that position then gradually came to well over an hour later still not able to move. As my brain was waking up I thought again 'this is not right why is this happening?' and tried to notice and remember.

I noticed slightly odd sensations in my feet and hands and it seemed to take quite a while before I was able to move at all or open my eyes.
After a bit I was suddenly fine getting up, felt more normally tired and could go and make tea, talk to the family etc. I basically lost the whole afternoon and I don't feel great now. I feel tired with a slight headache.

It would be really easy to ignore this and try to make up for lost time decluttering instead of posting here but I think I keep doing that. I always have lots of reasons to be tired including not getting a good night's sleep (not due to insomnia). I think this sort of crash happens fairly frequently and because I am busy I just ignore it and keep going as soon as it passes. This time I decided I should consult the hive mind that is MN and hope for some clue about what this is and, fingers crossed, how to prevent it. Its incredibly inconvenient and also slightly concerning.

In no special order things I am wondering about/ noticing.

  • it seems reasonable that I suffer from fatigue every day although of course I wish I could get a night's sleep and didn't have some major stresses to deal with. This type of crashing out could just be a result of the pressures of life and I should stop thinking about it and get on with what I'm supposed to be doing!
  • I finished a very physically strenuous 10 days on Tuesday perhaps I'm just not over it.
  • loads of people have had Covid again recently. A family member has been referred to a long Covid clinic. I had some nasty viral illness (didn't test) about 3 months ago maybe I haven't shaken it off?
  • Dr switched me from Ozempic (taking for years) to Mounjaro a couple of months ago, could it be a side effect? Could it be blood sugar related?
  • blood pressure?
I plan to contact my GP about my general level of fatigue, a friend suggested getting blood checked eg for anaemia, would make sense. Meanwhile I'm trying to get my head around this particular weird experience and I'd be very grateful if you can shed any light on it. TIA.

Some things it might be but until you get checked out it is only guessing.

Low iron/ferritin. Get Full Blood Count and thyroid etc.

TIA Trans ischaemic attack. Mini stroke. Get an opinion/follow up from GP

B12 deficiency, again blood test will show. Can be sorted with regular B12 injections. Have a look at the symptoms

The Mounjaro might be affecting you negatively. See what doc says and get HBa1c bloods done.

Best of luck.

Reactive hypoglycaemia

PurpleWillow · 09/08/2024 19:27

It sounds pretty scary, not being able to move.

Bloodworks are a good idea, hemoglobin, ferritin, thyroid, and probably more. For the first two: compare your values to what is supposed to be the optimum, not the minimum. There is quite a difference and a GP might not be up to date with current research.

Furthermore: is there a chance you have a concussion?

toomanyshoes · 09/08/2024 19:49

I'm on mounjaro and I feel totally exhausted at the moment. Have to have a nap almost immediately when I get a wave of tiredness. Worse in the first few days after each jab, but gets better after a few days.

Mum5net · 09/08/2024 19:54

Have you been bitten by anything?

AceofPentacles · 09/08/2024 19:56

I get this if I eat sugar on an empty stomach.

lovemycbf · 09/08/2024 20:02

Having lupus and being in the sun can cause it to flare up and makes me feel unwell/tired/sweaty

lovemycbf · 09/08/2024 20:03

Hyperglycaemia also can make you feel odd

Shaflump · 09/08/2024 20:20

Thank you all so much, I will look into these things and see if any of the descriptions ring a loud bell.

I was bitten a few weeks ago@Mum5net , no idea what by. I had 3 very inflamed itchy bites on my arm which took a while to go. What do you think it could be?

OP, I can’t say what’s wrong with you,but there are times when insect bites can make you have flu like symptoms, hot sweats, headaches …
Hopefully, it is not something that’s happened to you, just putting it on you radar…

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 10/08/2024 07:49

The scenario you’ve written sounds exactly like dumping syndrome that a person who has had weight loss surgery can experience when eating something with higher fat or sugar content so I would definitely consider that it could be a reaction to the meal you had eaten, an episode of reactive hypoglycaemia or due to the Mounjaro affecting you differently to the Ozempic.

I would definitely get yourself seen for a general check over if it happens again but also, if it’s possible to, test your blood sugars when you next start to feel this coming on and see what they reading.
