I am trying to make sense of all my symptoms as everyone seems to be stumped… Is this at all possible or am I deluded?!

I have a posterior vaginal prolapse which can leave me unable to poo. When I am blocked up like this I can feel quite light headed, my hands go numb and I feel very lethargic. I have had my blood pressure taken at this time and it has been low. (It could all be a coincidence with timings but I am desperately clutching at straws) Could being blocked up really be responsible for the other symptoms? I’ve had all the blood tests under the sun and nothing else has come up. I’m on HRT and I read somewhere that progesterone can make a prolapse worse. Is it at all possible that all this is a cycle that is related? The HRT is helping in so many ways but if it’s inadvertently aggravating something else I need to make a plan.

Any help greatly appreciated

Yup. I'm tired so not able to explain well but basically being blocked up can put pressure on the vagus nerve and cause light headedness etc. Can sometimes make you pass out.

This. The best thing you can do is work on keeping the poo soft and bulky so that it moves efficiently through the gut and is too large to get stuck behind the prolapse.
Porridge, prunes, figs, cooked veg, salad, lots of water and a regular dose of movicol or lactulose can really help. It needs to be a permanent change though and should help to stop the prolapse getting worse.

Vasovagal syncope - have a look at this online for more info, I also suffer from it. Light headed, nausea and sweaty, afterwards I totally zone out and have the deepest relax/sleep. My sister also suffers from the same thing due to bowel movements or a reaction to pain

Southwest17 · 08/08/2024 23:00

To add, and it’s gross but I have struggled to find similar experiences, I suffer the same constipation wise and I have to put pressure on my perineum to pass a bowel movement. I also sometimes, if it’s really bad, feel sick with it like it’s in my throat??! I never understand this as it’s the opposite end of my body! I have also had to manipulate things to get it out - I promise I’m not some poo troll! I’m relieved to find someone else suffers this - I think I too probably have a prolapse after 2 extremely fast deliveries of babies, I am also 40 and think hormones are catching up on me

HRT has absolutely given me constipation

I have only been constipated twice in my life - once when pregnant and now when taking HRT so it's perfectly possible

I have had to add in all sorts of fibre and supplements to sort it out

Thanks so much @MassiveOvaryaction and @endofthelinefinally that sounds exactly like what it is. I'm usually pretty good with being regular but the HRT and school holidays have meant I'm all over the place.

@Southwest17 I have read up a lot about how to help the poo come out so don't worry - I know you're not a poo troll.

@8008Bee HRT has mostly given me the opposite apart from those specific weeks. It's so strange

I have had a front wall prolapse, since October 2022. I have to press on my perineum with wads of tp, to fully empty my bowel.
Female GP refuses to refer me on as in her opinion there is nothing to be done.
I'm 72 and will just have to live with it.
