Dd and her "turns"

skippy67 · 07/08/2024 15:48

My dd is 23. For the past 3 years, she's been having some worrying symptoms. She's described suddenly feeling very very weak, and losing all strength in her arms and legs. She finds it difficult to speak and sometimes has blurred vision too. These "turns" can last from 30 mins to hours. She's had ECGs, a brain MRI and numerous blood tests. Thankfully all normal. Years ago when we were at an outside event, she suddenly started crying, saying she couldn't see. We got her out of the crowd to a quiet area, and calmed her down. Eventually her vision returned and we went home. GP said she'd had an occular migraine. Could these episodes she's been having ever since be related to that? Thanks for reading.

Why are you being so snippy? Your tone on all your posts has been quite aggressive and you sound weirdly annoyed? Just leave the thread if it's winding you up so much.

huh?

Good grief

3 years
daughter suffering
been through loads of tests

and yet the most obvious… blood pressure, which was actually shown to be low at time of incident - not explored

in fact in 3 years you have t even asked until this evening and decided to start a thread on mumsnet without actually talking to your daughter to find out the latest

all very odd so i’ll hide thread and leave you be

but 3 years suffering like that, i’d be all over it

Some people... 🙄angry at her own mom probably...

Could well be just hormones.. ask her to track when these things happen and if there is any pattern to it. Or..is she skinny..not eating much? Anemia? Anxiety? Ask gp for some blood tests for hormones and all if its affecting her life really

I think investigating her blood pressure and working on increasing it a bit would be the way to go. I used to be underweight and had low blood pressure (hence that was my first thought when reading your post) and used to come close to fainting with the symptoms you describe (weakness, spots in front of eyes, headaches, feeling ill etc.). I was also very cold all the time due to being underweight and having bad circulation. What helped for me was gaining weight, improving circulation through exercise, eating frequently, drinking lots of water (about 4 litres a day), including extra salt in my diet. I haven't had a "turn" for years and now only get symptoms when very dehydrated

I agree, it might have been that low bp caused the first set of symptoms and then functional neurological symptoms have got stuck in a loop and are causing a repeat of them, even when she doesn't have low bp. FND usually has a "trigger event". Maybe see if she can get a continuous monitor to wear, and keep asking for a neurology referral - you're always allowed to ask for a second opinion.

Eh?
The thing is, the OP has asked a question but given very little information - and is now drip feeding as a result of questions being asked of her. That’s not being snippy, that’s trying to get a clearer picture of the problem.

yepyouknow doesn't sound snippy to me. Yep sounds like she is fact finding to me. Just from another point of view.

Drip feeding, or just answering questions? I tried to put all relevant info in my OP. Someone asked about blood pressure, I dd, then posted her answer. So where's the drip feed?
