Severe teething pain

Ds is 11 months, has 8 teeth so far. The last week or so he has been chomping like mad on his finger and dribbling away.

Think its his eye teeth coming through.

Yesterday evening/night he has really upset, high temperature, bright red cheek and generally unwell... did the usual - calpol, ashton and parsons etc but to be honest it didnt really provide much respite.

He was up most of the night crying in pain, nothing would consol him.

The problem is we are off on our holidays on Thursday - to Spain, so I'm worried that if he is hot already once we get here its going to make him even worse.

Is there anything else I can give him? Is it worth tryng to get an appointment at the doctors? Or will they just think I am a nurotic mother and tell me to give him calpol?

Many Thanks

Def see the doc.

You may presume it's all down to the teething but what if he has an ear infection as well? Or a throat inf starting. Not nice to be on a plane with ear trouble.

The symptoms are all very similar and unfortunately you can't see down his ear only the doc can.

Once he's seen the doc you can happily spoon in the calpol without worrying too much.

Enjoy your hols - anywhere nice? Hot I hope

Its probably his first molars..strangely they usually come in before the eye teeth, and are pretty big. I found Bonjela really good although it doesn't last long, but it calms them if they are really screaming. You could also try Nurofen? Have you given him something to chew on? A chilled teether can be great!

But actually, yes, it would be worth getting his ears checked first!!

Will give the docs at ring at 8am.

Bloody dp has made me feel like a terrible mother as I have kept him dosed up with calpol (1 before bed,1 at 1am and 1 at 7am), saying things like " dont give him too much calpol or he'll become immune to it/ I dont think he's in pain - he's just tired - no need to go to the doctors he'll be fine...ARGHHHHHHHHH

Normally I wouldnt worry too much but with flight and hot weather I just want to make sure and do everything I can for him - its our first family holiday so want everything to be nice - off to Lanzarote - about 28deg out there at the moment

You can get some stuff called Anbesol in a little bottle. I have found it to be very good for teething pain. From my own experience of using it for mouth ulcers I know it tingles slightly - this always distracted my teething child!

Aside from that I agree with gagarin - think it would be worth you going to the doctors and asking them to look in his ears just in case - especially before you get on a plane!

Hope you got an app at GP GM. Definitely a good idea to have him checked out before you go away.

I second the Anbesol NL suggested, I have used it for J and Izzy and it really does seem to help.

Hope you have a good holiday.
