Exhausted

Two children (6 and 3). Work FT and do a lot around the house. Other than the essentials i cannot do anything else. I have no social life or desire for one. I do not want to do anything, i have no energy. I wake up every morning feeling exhausted regardless of how good or bad the night was. GP hasn't helped. Is this normal for my situation or is there possibly something medical that i need to push on? I feel in a fog a lot of the time.

Did you have your iron & ferritin levels checked by the GP? I think mine are low again, I'm struggling. Blood test on Monday to see.

Thanks for your answer. They did do tests and didn't come back to me so assume nothing came up.. sorry to hear you feel similar

I was the same, just put it down to being stressed and busy juggling work with children; but it reached the point I was needing a nap in the evenings which didn't feel right! I had a blood test done privately (had one at the GP months before but also didn't hear back), turns out even though I eat a balanced diet with plenty of iron my levels were low. I feel like a different person now! I do still get tired and worn out, but nothing like I was and not all the time.

It could be normal as it were, but if you feel it's excessive I'd push for answers.

@Kebarbra did you take iron supplements? Glad it worked out

Yes, I'm on a high dose for 6 months then all being well can go down to a more reasonable dose long term. I did have a follow up appointment to check a few things out as apparently several things can cause anemia but thankfully all came back fine!

There can be several things that cause severe tiredness, but yeah if it feels beyond 'normal' unfortunately we often have to push for answers don't we.

Curlewwoohoo · 03/08/2024 22:27

Did you actually get your blood test results? The low end of 'normal' iron can still have some people feeling rubbish. And blood tests don't always test for ferritin, which is your stored iron, and is different. It's my ferritin that was low, even though I wasn't anaemic. Maybe ask the doctor for your numbers.

Ovenon · 03/08/2024 22:31

Definitely ask to see the results, they could be very low but the computer will still record as 'normal'. Ferritin, iron, haemoglobin all very important.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 03/08/2024 22:46

You need to get your results, sign up for the NHS app and you can see them, don't just rely on the doctor contacting you if there's anything wrong. Someone's borderline results get you no initial GP section but can make you feel dreadful.
What did they test for? How is your B12 vit D and thyroid function?
