Hi

Dd had temp over the weekend then runny poo for the last 24 hours and now just noticed red rashy spots on her forehead, some have large white heads and she is scratching them.
Checked her whole body and none nowhere else yet.

Does this sound like chicken pox?

If it is what do I need to do?

From on the seeing spots she is contagious for five days right?

Do I need to go buy some lotion - any other advice would be really appreciated thanks.

Oh dear just smelt another runny one - best go!

It could be. She will infectious unil the last crop of spots have crusted over completely which can take about ten days.

By tomorrow, you will know for certain. Hope she gets better soon.

Hello

Is the calmine lotion the only thing you can use?

What about antihistamine like the childrens liquid one - cant remember the name now.

Also was supposed to be seeing my heavily pregnant friend tomorrow so will cancel it now to be on the safe side.

I know she had had chicken pox but does that mean it can still harm her unborn baby?

thanks

Hi

My two have just had it. I used calopol for the youngest (6mnths) and an anti histimine (piriton syrup) for the oldest (2.8yrs) - then calamine for the spots - actually the calamine aqueous cream is v.good and easier to put on.
Piriton will ease the itching.
I kept them in, it shouldn't affect the baby if she has had it but if she is at all worried then I would stay away.
I found the first 48 hours were the worst and then it was fine as long as I kept re-applying the cream
Good luck !

yes, stay away from pregnant friend. I liked calamine lotion, the other one you might be thinking of would be piriton, I think.

Homeopaths recommend a cream and rememdy called rhus tox.

It's a while since I dealt with the pos though - others will know better.

Good to get it over and done with!

Piriton is the liquid antihistimine that I think you mean. If they will still sell it to you after recent regulation changes - how old is dd?
Bicarb in the bathwater, or oats tied in a muslin added to the bath is very good for soothing itches too.
Calamine lotion yes if you can get it on, or if like my ds who enjoyed the 'painting' part but then insisted on washing it off, there are calamine creams too.

If it is chickenpox the spots usually soon spread over her torso and get a noticable blister in top.

Antihistamine is wonderful if she gets it badly. I had it as an adult and couldnt believe how awful it was. However, some people get it very mildly - my ds for one - and barely notice that they have got it.

After the first sprinkling, the spots come in three waves, three days apart. They can affect different areas of the body with each wave - ie head, legs, torso etc. Some people swear by calamine, others find it more itching, because it dries the skin out. Lying in a warm bath of water was all I could do, apart from piriton. (Piriton was great cause it either eased the itching or made me sleep so I missed out on some scratching)

CP can go into any orifice on the body too - eyes, ears, throat or bottoms. I had it down the throat which made eating painful, but discovered that if you chop grapes in half and stick them into a jelly as it sets, they are wonderfully soothing.

As I say lots of people just itch a bit and feel mildly under the weather. (I looked like an extra from Dr Who once my face scabbed over, and I felt really ill for 2 weeks, then really weak for another two weeks.) If she does get it badly, be prepared for her to sleep a lot for some weeks to come.

End of essay. Hope it's not cp - or at least that it's mild for her if so.
