DD covered in a rash - chicken pox at nursery but no blisters - tell me not to panic!

DD (10months) started beign unwell on Friday, unusually clingy, off her food and the odd spot appearing - a sign had gone up arly in the week at nursery saying there had been cases of chicken pox so i assumed it was this. By saturday pm she was covered and didnt eat much over the weekend - we gave her bottles because she wasnt taking much food in.
Today she seems perkier but not her usual self and eating more but not back to normal, some of the spots seem to have faded from her tummy but legs/arms/feet still ocvered though less so on her face. Howvere there is not a blister in sight which i thought was a sign of chicken pox some of the spots om her legs seem to have a pink dot in the middle.

Have googled for images of chicken pox - what she has bears no real resemblance to the big blisters i saw in the pics. Have looked on the NHS website which has scared me no end....

She is our 1st child, plus ive never seen 'real life' chicken pox -

Would appreciate some advice...

Have you done the glass test on the rash?

Give your gp a call and see what they say.

chocolateshoes · 14/04/2008 14:37

I think I'd call GP & get an appointment just to be on the ssafe side.

Yes, go to your GP just to be on the safe side.

However, my ds (2.5) allegedly had chickenpox three weeks ago (see the pic on my profile).

It started with a few spots, he was clingy, off food etc, but then the spots didn't follow the chickenpox pattern and were still there three weeks later. I saw a different doc who said it was a skin infection and prescribed antibiotic cream which seems to be doing the trick.

Have been to the pharmacists who says it isnt chicken pox - mentioned measles?! Now waiting for the docs to call back to tell me when they can see her.
Thanks everyoine for your responses, fingers crossed its 'just' some kind of allergy.

Hopefully it is an allergy. Let us know how you get on & hope your lo doesn't feel too yukky.

poodlepusher · 14/04/2008 18:55

We had this and the GP confirmed it WAS chicken pox but a very mild case. It faded and re-appeared and now is gone. Took about a month to 6 wks in all.

Orchide · 14/04/2008 19:10

Have an appointment in the morning.

She seemed a lot better early this evening, crawling around on the carpet after DH.

I really should stop looking at websites which give me a bit too much information, i end up scaring myself silly!

Poodlepusher - all those reappearances, was your LO contagious for the same p[eriod of time as 'regular'chicken pox?

OP posts:
poodlepusher · 14/04/2008 19:13

Apparently he was contagious, until they went away (faded as you say) but he didn't give it to his 3 month old sister and they share a room and a bath tub (one at a time).

Orchide · 14/04/2008 19:17

That was v lucky!

Hopefully ill get a def. answer tomorrow.

The GP gave me a 2 page print out on Chickenpox. They might be able to give that to you as well. I found it helpful to check later on.

The only thing is that if you have a "mild" case there is apparently a chance you can catch it again, which would not be fun.
