Sharp wrist pain on picking stuff up

For a couple of years now I’ve been having sharp pain in my right wrist when I pick up heavy objects like a large bottle of milk, a kettle or sometimes just a cup of tea. The pain is sharp and severe and my wrist feels weak.

The pain also occurs on trying to open bottles or any twisting motion.

I went to the GP at the beginning of the year but because there was no obvious injury or swelling I was told just to take ibuprofen if it hurts but no referral or clue as to what is causing this.

Any ideas?

My son is disabled and until very recently I would push him around in a disability buggy, he is very big for his age and I believe I’ve injured my wrist pushing him around.

Hi @BubblegumBubblegum

Not sure but sounds similar to an issue my Sister had. Have a look at 'trigger finger' and 'wrist tendonitis' to see if that sounds likely.

Does a support bandage help?

I have this too!

Every now and again my wrist just 'goes' whilst picking up an object, pushing something etc and will feel weak and ready to 'go' again for a few days after it occured. Has been happening a few years.

Why I'm commenting is I also have a 14yo DD in a wheelchair who is non-mobile, her wheelchair is heavy and obvs I have been pushing her for years.
Over time it sounds like we must do some damage to our wrists. I also have some pain in my elbows every now and then and need to feel like I have to straighten out my arms and I feel like it's because my elbows are always bent for pushing her chair!
