Hi

First I’ll add I’m not expecting a diagnosis etc the Gp appointment is booked

I'm wondering if anyone who understands the results can help

Its for a 6 year old girl
Symptoms
tiredness
often looks gaunt around the eyes
ulcers in mouth
thin hair
pretty much on the lowest percentile for age for both height and weight

Got a text to book dr appointment to discuss the receptionist said wasn’t urgent and got one for 13/8 but it would be nice to have an idea what I should be asking the dr for if anything

Thanks for any help

I think these all look completely normal at quick glance!

nocoolnamesleft · 31/07/2024 22:02

Agree, nothing leaping out from those.

And again thank you

Seems a waste of appointment really I’m sure the last blood test I had there was a text to say all was ok maybe they like to talk for children which i spose isn’t a bad thing

I disagree. Ferritin is very low measuring at 33.2 when the higher level is 400.

No idea about children but ferritin needs to be around 70 for healthy hair growth in adults.

It was 41.2 on march 2022 as well so would that flag up it has dropped?

B12 far too low
Folate too low
Ferritin too low

NHS has ranges that are too high.

Join vitamin B12 Wake Up on Facebook and post the results there. They are amazing and will tell you what supplements are needed.

Sorry. I misread the B12. However, if folate level is not optimum, the body cannot utilise B12 effectively

Bumply · 31/07/2024 22:27

From symptoms alone I'd consider coeliac

Been wheat and dairy free on and off her whole life doing elimination diet etc

that was the route we was heading down but I’m a bit confused as the bottom of page 2 has a result for that but the lady who took the blood said it would take 10 days for that result so not really sure as bloods was only took yesterday morning

The second page of bloods is really hard to read ,apart from her B12,ferritin etc being low I would say her T4 is also at the low end. Normal levels are not the same as optimum levels and the nhs often has ranges that mean some people are unwell on what is considered “ normal” .Do you have any family history of digestive / auto immune or endocrine issues?

not really sure what the image has done I have tried again as it looks normal in the gallery on my phone so I’ve tried a screen shot this time

my dad has to have b12 injections

other than that nothing in the immediate family that we know of

well this picture is even worse not sure why it’s not working

Already been suggested but I'd also be considering coeliac disease. My daughter's coeliac bloods take longer than other bloods to come back as they apparently get sent elsewhere where we are (She's got coeliac and has annual bloods).

westcountrywoman · 31/07/2024 23:29

I would also suggest coeliac disease from the symptoms but if she's not regularly eating much gluten, you'll not get a true reading on the blood results. She would need to be eating at least 2 pieces of toast (or equivalent) a day for 6-8 weeks, then repeat the bloods. She could still be having small amounts of gluten from cross contamination etc. that are enough to trigger the symptoms without being enough to give an accurate blood test result.

Our dr said 3 months so she has been having enough gluten we think but that part of blood test currently says 0.1 unless it is a misprint and will change after 10 days

Did heavy metal levels get checked at any point?

handmademitlove · 01/08/2024 07:40

Have they also checked igA levels? The ttg test only.works if there is no igA deficiency.socthey should.also check that. If there is a deficiency, they will need to do a different coeliac screen test.

This is a very normal ferritin level for children. 7 to 140 ng/mL for children 6 months to 15 years is normal.

This is on the second page I think and hard to see but not flagged as out of range

the ferritin level here has been measured in ug/l not ng/ml. edited to get l v.ml right!

WarriorN · 01/08/2024 08:51

I have no idea if this is of any use but it points towards assessments for children who don't seem to be growing.

It was shared by the British thyroid foundation - low thyroid hormones can also cause slow growth and tiredness.

Tsh looks ok but I know there are different reference ranges for children, t4 is low but again I don't know if that is significant

Edited

They are equivalent measures due to the ml/l difference leveling out the nano/microgram difference.

Mannilea · 01/08/2024 20:16

thank you all for your comments lots of stuff to look up before the dr call

I have hopefully added the second page again

for those who know about the coeliac test is this the right one (the lady did say would be a 10 day wait and yet it’s there 36 hours later so unless I’m going to get more?) and in your experience is pain and bad belly a definate as she doesn’t really experience that

Symptom wise that’s what most people in real life have said as well yet the dr was 99% she couldn’t have it due to not being ‘bad’ enough

im 5ft nothing her dads 6ft so growth wise I get that someone has to be the shortest but it seems more noticeable since school she started the same height as most the girls and now there’s is head and shoulders difference in most of them and she’s a march baby so not the youngest
