I have been getting really bad PMT recently. To give you some idea I get one week off which is usually the week of my period, then it starts to come and just builds and builds.

I usually end in a puddle of tears because I am that wound up and stressed about, well usually nothing much.. Have tried Evening Primrose Oil but doesn't seem to do anything for me.

I am tempted to visit the GP but thought I would try here first.

I've been trying acupuncture recently which has helped a lot this month - my PMT is normally awful and this month I haven't noticed it at all - worth a go?

I chatted to my GP not very long ago. As a result I am trying a VitB complex and Evening Primrose Oil. haven't been doing it long enough to establish results.

GP seemed fairly keen to prescribe Prozac for about 10 days a month - you just take them for PMT time then don't take them the rest of the month. Seemed a bit extreme as a first course of action, but could be worth consideration.

How long does it take before the Vit B to work? I agree prozac is a strange option and I thought it took two weeks before it worked anyway. I did wonder whether St Johns Wort would make a difference but not too sure really.

Hatty: have you been going to see someone for the acupuncture? Is is expensive,

Yes! Wouldn't be brave enough to DIY! My therapist is £30 per session which is expensive but does seem to have made a difference. M period is due tomorrow and normally at this stage I would be crying and throwing things and I'm feeling very tired but pretty calm!

I tried the evening primrose oil last year and found it effective and then ran out and haven't got around to getting more - must stock up.

She said that although we've always said Prozac takes a couple of weeks to work, there's new evidence that it works faster than that. PMT and depression are different though, so maybe it works in a different way. I don't know.

The irony of it was that the day I was talking to her was the day the news was full of how prozac doesn't work at all!
