Any tips for coping with a broken arm (adult not child!)

I’ve got to have an operation on my arm next month which is going to involve me being in a cast for 6-8 weeks. Any tips on how not to go crazy with boredom or how to manage getting dressed etc. I tried this morning and realised I can’t get a bra on one-handed for a start! I’ve already ordered a limbo arm cover thing for showering. Thanks

Sports type bras / bralettes that you can put your feet into first and pull up over your body.
A pillow to prop your arm up at night.
Lots of books but also very important to still get out and about as much as possible for fresh air exercise and seeing people
Take good care of your shoulder with good posture and gentle exercises to avoid frozen shoulder

The items I found most useful were:

A special chopping board with big spikes to hold the item you're chopping in place so you can chop one handed.

A rubber dycem mat to hold my plate in place.

A stretchy support crop top to wear instead of a bra, however I did find that a bra with a band size that was too big could be fastened one handed and then put on over my head

A man's hoody with sleeves big enough to go over the cast.

I actually found I could do everything I needed to one handed (my broken arm was in a massive cast to my armpit and that hand was also out of action for ages even though the finger tips poked out of the cast).

You eventually find work arounds for everything. It's kind of a fun challenge (rose tinted glasses well and truly active 😂)

Oh and the poster's point about moving that arm regularly is so so important (my shoulder is still recovering from my broken elbow three years down the line...). I did a good job of getting out for walks etc. and carried on with life as normal with cooking/parenting etc. but all the time sitting with my arm elevated really screwed up my shoulder.

Assuming it’s your lower arm if you’ll be in a cast, so different to my experience but some things to consider- I couldn’t even get sports bralet on to start with, had strapless bra for essential occasions ( do up round the front and twist around - still do this like a proper 👵🏻 with normal bra now!) - elasticated waisted trousers, cardigans and blouses are also easiest to wear - poncho rather than coat depending on weather. Books and box sets all the way, plus a rota of friends to take you to lunch when you can’t drive! Good luck OP and swift recovery.

Thanks all! Yes it’s my lower arm, appreciate all the suggestions - especially about keeping my shoulder moving, I’ll speak to the physio about that. Hadn’t thought about that at all. How much could you do with your plastered arm - not sure if I’ll be able to grip much?
