Pulsatile tinnitus

Has anyone had investigations in to pulsatile tinnitus? I've been having it on and off, at night only, for a couple of months. It happens sometimes when I get out of bed at night to go the loo but last night it woke me up and I was just lay there. I googled (I know 🙈) and I'm now a bit worried as I've also been having what the gp said were tension headaches and other weird things like seeing my pulse in my eyes. Annoyingly I had a gp appointment the other day (for the headaches) and I didn't mention it so now I'm having to wait another week for another appointment.

Hi I get this as I have eustachian tube dysfunction.
I find I get it more in the warmer weather as my ears seem to be worse when it's hot.
Mine is also bad at night when I lay down in bed and it keeps me awake.

It’s incredibly common and usually benign but worth getting it checked out as it can be caused by high blood pressure and other things.

I have this off/on, I had my blood pressure checked and I had a 24hr ECG heart monitor thing both of which were fine so doctor no longer interested. I was given some ear drops which did help somewhat. I make sure to keep my ears water free and that has helped a bit too.

Thanks all, I'm hoping it's just down to my weird ears. Have booked in with a gp next Friday.

I'd book a routine eye test.

I think there are many reasons for pulsatile tinnitus but my dd had a routine eye test last week and was referred to hospital urgently because oct scan picked up swollen optic nerves in both eyes. Hospital scanned and tested and she has intracranial hypertension and is taking tablets for this now.

She thought she had no symptoms but Looking back she had some tension headaches and pulsatile tinnitus over a few months. If she hadn't had the eye test and oct scan it wouldn't have been picked up. Intracranial hypertension is rare but worth ruling in or out @CreatingHavoc

I only notice it when my iron is low. Get my iron back up and it goes. Might be worth asking for bloods too?

I had this for a few months which then disappeared.

GP that I saw said most cases go away by themselves.

@tobee thank you, incidentally I actually went to out of hours a couple of weeks ago who then sent me on to A&E (which was a bit 😳) because they thought some of my visual symptoms were concerning. A&E did a CT scan and intercranial hypertension was something they checked for. They said it was normal so I'm guessing it's not that. I was thinking of going to the optician anyway though as my vision has been more 'wobbly' than usual when I'm reading.

@QuestionableMouse my iron is actually better than it has been in years as I've been supplementing for about 9 months. It's gone from 11 to about 30ish. Still not high enough really but getting there.
