Hello all!

I've been suffering with LPR/reflux for a while and after my pregnancy ended last year I was left with more horrific heartburn. Pushed for an endoscopy and they found a 4cm sliding HH.

Consultant wants to do couple tests and then see if if I'm a suitable candidate for surgery but I'm not sure what kind of surgery. He did mention fundoplication? First test is a ph test with the tube down nose and said there was a second one to see if that fundoplication is do-able so I'm not sure what this second test is or something along them lines.

I am quite overweight - BMI of 31. My heart is saying to try lose weight before opting for surgery (easier said than done though) but a part of me just wants the op. Has anyone been through anything similar or words of advice?

TIA

If you need an operation, best to be as fit and healthy as possible. Always better to try and resolve things without surgery first. There are always risks involved - why risk it when you don’t have to.
it can help to solve the problem by losing weight - so why wouldnt you.

Not me personally (although I suspect I too have one), but my Mum had this op a number of years ago, and she is so happy she did. But it’s not an easy recovery, so bear that in mind.

I am currently trying to lose weight also, as I figure my extra weight is not helping my situation. I don’t feel I could push for tests etc unless I’m seen to be trying my best to help myself. By losing weight, you would be reducing the pressure on the abdomen, which can help the sliding HH.
