GP totally stumped by this rash

I’ve had this red patch of skin approx 1 inch by 2 on my stomach for about 2 months now. It’s not itchy, bumpy, scaly, raised or dry. In fact I wouldn’t know it was there if I couldn’t see it. I have tried anti fungal creams and hydrocortisone with no luck. The GP has no idea. I’m keen to consult the MN hive mind for any ideas??

You have 3 stretch marks radiating from it, so the ellipsoid red patch could be a deeper red stretch mark. Try 1% retinoid cream to see if it will fade.

Fungal imo

SofiaAmes · 23/07/2024 22:50

Could it be the herald patch of pythriasis rosea? (Google for images). When my dd had this, her herald patch did not initially look like the nasty raised things on google (and looked a lot like your picture), but when the rest of the rash appeared, it became clear that that's what it was. If that's what it is, it's not contagious and just a viral thing that will run its course. Usually comes after a huge stress or bad flu.

@Sleeposaurus great minds think alike.

Havanawinter · 23/07/2024 22:54

I haven’t heard of pityriasis rosacea before, thank you for sharing. This says though that a larger rash will appear within 5-15 days and I’ve had this patch for 2 months now. Could that still be it?

No it can’t. Some haven’t really digested your op.

Havanawinter · 23/07/2024 22:56

I think the stretch marks are incidental and unrelated. I’ve had them for years since my first pregnancy.

I would have said fungal as well. Where is it on your stomach exactly? Is a sweat prone zone?

What antifungals have you tried? Daktacort miconazole 2% and hydrocortisone 1% would be good but I think that is now discontinued so whatever is similar?
Have you tried prescription strength hydrocortisone + fungally stuff?

Havanawinter · 23/07/2024 23:02

I have tried canesten, daktarin and hydrocortisone 1%. It’s just slightly up from my belly button on the left hand side, not a particularly sweaty area. I’m not a very sweaty person really. It doesn’t itch or smell.

It doesn't correspond to where anything metallic like a belt buckle might rub, does it?

Havanawinter · 23/07/2024 23:05

@PickAChew no I don’t wear belts. It’s been mostly summer dresses the last couple of months.

Stretch marks can be generated even when not pregnant. Any quick weight loss or gain can cause new ones.

SausageinaBun · 23/07/2024 23:10

If it isn't causing a problem, why are you doing anything about it?

Havanawinter · 23/07/2024 23:13

@SausageinaBun because skin rashes are often a symptom of other issues and I like to know what’s going on with my body. What a strange question.

Left field suggestion - it's not somewhere that a laptop, or the transformer part of the charger (ie bits that get warm), rests when you're, say, reading in bed or something?

Havanawinter · 23/07/2024 23:28

That’s a good shout but no I can’t think of anything that rests on the area like that
