Nosebleeds After Alcohol

When I've been drinking recently, I've sometimes been getting nosebleeds either then or the next day. It's not like blood pouring, more like needing to blow my nose and blood being on the tissue. It doesn't last long. I've also been often getting a severely runny nose, though the bleeds don't always coincide with the runniness. Does anyone have any idea what this might be, and whether it's potentially a cause for concern?

How much do you drink, any bleeding from anywhere else. Do you suffer with any allergies or hay-fever, has your doctor looked up your nose to see if there is any polyps , cuts or obstruction.

Probably drink too much, a bottle or slightly more of white wine usually a couple of times a week. I do have allergies and am autoimmune, I saw an allergy nurse a couple of weeks ago who prescribed me fexofenadine which has maybe helped but not stopped it... I didn't realise the nosebleeds were related to drinking though and thought they were because I was using a nasal spray, so she suggested not using that anymore. Now I'm pretty sure they are down to the alcohol though. Nobody checked my nose.

Thats too much wine each week but you know that so maybe you'd like to get support in cutting down, it affects the liver and blood clotting, go back to the doctor and ask them to check your nose and signpost you to alcohol support,

Yeah, I know - I do struggle a bit to stop once I start, though I am happy to not drink at all. I have had a lot of bloods recently (for various other ailments!) so assume anything worrying would've been picked up... It just seems such an odd symptom, I've not been able to find much on the internet. Better go back to the doctor to be on the safe side. Thanks for replying.

Thank you for these - I had found the second one, I don't get to the point where I feel drunk at all and I know my blood pressure is fine as only had that done a few weeks ago. The bleeding doesn't fill even one tissue, it's just a smear. The first link is interesting though and I do have a bit of redness on my cheeks, although that's very typical for my skin type. I suspect the alcohol's probably affecting my blood vessels, which while presumably not immediately life-threatening is not great news. And presumably it will get worse if I continue drinking at this level... I certainly do need to consider cutting down I think, at least temporarily.

You’ve got this!

Ive heard drinking can cause nose bleeds....
Otherwise sensitive sinuses...

The fact you don’t feel drunk after a whole
bottle of wine isn’t a good thing. It shows you’ve built up a worrying level of tolerance after a sustained period of binging.
