PfO closure

I am seeking a bit of advice on PFO closure. Internet research suggests 3 days of recovery and return to work. I'm looking to understand 2 things... reasonableretuen to work to include fatigue post op, I don't currently have a dr due to relocation to a new area. The 2nd thing is that would I be unreasonable to book a holiday to include a music festival in November.

Obviously, the pfo is a procedure I'm taking seriously, i don't want to jeopardise the recovery, but welcome feedback from those who have undergone a PFO.

I'd say OP explain the issue a bit more, when is the op. I had to look up what a PFO is. What type of surgery are you having to correct it? Minimally invasive? catheter type surgery?

Morning, it's catheter type, with tube down throat etc, if all goes to plan it's a long day case. A gauze (titanium mix i believe) is inserted and placed over hole in heart. Op is next week

Family member had PFO closure a few years ago. From memory the recovery was fairly quick - think they had to take it easy for a couple of weeks but felt absolutely fine pretty much from the day after the procedure.

They had to have a follow up trans oesophageal echocardiogram 3 months after the procedure to check device was still in place and heart tissue had grown over it. Once this was confirmed they were cleared to come off all meds that had been prescribed (had stroke caused by clot originating from PFO, unaware of PFO until investigatons following stroke).

best of luck with your procedure

This is fabulous news and the same situation I'm in. Thank you Polly for taking the time to share. I'm just looking forward to putting stroke and pfo behind me.

Glad to be able to help - although it’s awful to have a stroke it’s reassuring that they know the cause and can fix the issue. Family member has made full recovery from stroke, you’d never know it ever happened! Hope this is the case for you too
