i have had this procudure twice.. because the first one was called a 'failure'. after i came round from the first surgery i was in massive pain, so much so they did scans, xrays and MRI's on my hips incase they had damaged something but everything was deemed ok but osteoarthritis was found.

things just didn't get better... the pain was dreadful and in the end they did a 2nd MRI and deemed it failed and then did the op again.

the 2nd time round was so much better than the first. recovery much quicker. I am left with permanent damage to the nerves and i have numbness and a desensitised right leg now.

i was always told that they do not do the surgery to take away all the pain, they do it to aalleviate the back pain!

if it doesn't feel right then urge them to do more scans and tests..

@sentfrmmyiphone thank you very much for the reply. Sorry that u have to go through this .. can I have some more questions?
1- did u do the surgery on the same disc level? Or did they treat the osteoarthritis?
2- did that affect the spinal stability ?
3- how long did it take between the 2 surgeries?
4- when did you have the second surgery and how long it took for you to go back to normal daily life?

DD had the same surgery last year. Her leg pain was definitely a lot worse than pre-op for the first 2 weeks but after that settled a lot. Walking little and often is the key. Surgeon reassured her that it was all normal - just inflammation from surgery causing it.
