Peripheral neuropathy?

For the last 2 months I’ve had burning pain , pins and needles and just odd feeling feet/lower legs. I went to see my GP who noted slightly high BP, told me to get some blood tests and said ‘we’ll go from there’.
my bloods came back with:
low folate of 2.2 ug/L
increased mean cell haemoglobin of 35
increased mean cell volume of 109
Increased platelet count if 421
low RBC of 3.7

doctor says I’m low in folate and gave me 3 months of them to take. I’ve been taking it for a month and the issues with my legs and feet continue and are more noticeable.

obviously I’ve been google doctoring, and I have all the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy. I’ve had quite severe and debilitating low back pain for years and years. I’ve had tests that have never pin pointed a cause.

should I go back to the GP? My worry is that it isn’t the folic acid deficiency causing the foot problems, but something else and it’s going to get worse. I’ve caught my feet on steps and my car door twice today like they’re not doing what they’re supposed to. The heel of my right foot is totally numb

tbh, I’m pretty jaded with doctors who don’t ever seem interested in finding out what’s causing my pain. I feel ignored and like they think I’m just drug seeking and it’s in my head, so I sit here half convinced I’m imagining this problem. I feel like I’m going insane.

My DH has PN as a result of chemo ( and he had loads and loads of chemo). It’s in his feet, wearing shoes makes it more comfortable for him but it’s never going to go away. The evenings are when he feels it the most, stamping his feet almost non stop some nights.

He’s taken Gabapentin, Duloxitine, acupuncture, foot massages. Nothing works.

Also, just to let you know, if you are diagnosed with PN then you are legally obliged to notify the DVLA, if you drive.

I had this for a couple of years and I was so worried it wouldn't ever go away but luckily it has improved a lot. I had blood tests, saw a rheumatologist, an orthopaedic doctor and a neurologist.
I was anemic and had high white blood cells but nothing dramatic. Nerve conduction tests were ok. I was otherwise completely well, not overweight, don't drink or smoke and eat well and exercise.
The neurologist suggested it was inflamed nerve roots in my spine. I'd previously had years and years of bad backs and sciatica and although it had got a lot better it wasn't surprising that my spine was still causing problems.
It largely cleared up after I had taken a maximum dose of ibuprofen over the course of 4 or 5 days. The 'buzzing' and pain in my hands, forearms and feet almost disappeared like magic. I don't know if it was because of the ibropropfen though.

It has come back to some degree but it's ok compared to what it was.
