Can I use nitty gritty as a stand alone treatment or do i need 'bug killer' too?!

Have nitty gritty'd dd's 6 legged visitors. Got 3 big ones and about 12 dots that I presume are juveniles. I Keep nitty grittying myself and am unsure if i found anything or if it was just dh stubble in sink!

DS is 18 months and would not let me put the comb near him so i got hedrin on him just in case he has any.

Do i need to use hedrin or dd or is the nitty gritty so superb that i don't need too?

TIA

Personally i would use the headrin too, this is what i did with my DD the last time she got them.

The nitty gritty is good, but i still found some eggs a couple of days after combing. Its ment to remove eggs aswell as lice but my DDs hair is really fine so despite combing her hair for over 2 hours there were still eggs there.

Thanks, will do it tonight and end all this pseudo-itching!

I find it works fine with just the comb, but you do have to comb a few times. I use any random conditioner.

The nitty gritty comb is a stand alone treatment. You do need to comb again after a week although I tend to do every couple of days until I no longer find lice.

I've had the same thing, have used hedrin but still using conditioner(which slows the buggers nits down) and nit comb.

If you have found adult ones then you need to check for eggs- usually 1/2 to 1 inch from scalp, pull them off then crack them between your nails(would do the same with any live ones you find)

Good luck and I hope this helps

I used the nitty gritty comb on its own and it was brilliant. I was advised to use shampoo and conditioner containing tea tree as this is a natural repelant and so far we have never had the little blighters back again.

would just use nitty grittty and tons of conditioner- maybe plesanter for children-unless lots of adult lice walking around. i think the nitty gritty is amazing and gets out things the metal and plastic combs leave behind. good luck- we are just clear after 2 weeks of combing!

Use it with cheap conditioner, once or twice a week, every week even if they have no obvious nits.

I've only ever used the nitty gritty on dd.

StillWaters · 13/04/2008 10:22

I only used nitty gritty.
I bought huge bottle of cheap conditioner and did nitty gritty evry few days for a couple of weeks until convinced they'd all gone. (they actually went very quickly) They've not come back so far (about 18mths).

I was very releived not to have to use the basty chemicals.

In all the time of me having to de-bug my kiddies I have only ever used the nitty gritty comb and conditioner until just recently, and I was completely at the end of patience with it all........and I then used some chinese herbal stuff (I am very very anti chemicals on the kiddies cos of asthma, excema, and other poorlyness), and it worked fab.

however, I have done it just the once and am now back to just nitty gritty again as I don;t wish to over-do it on them.

I do however have another bottle, and am going to save it for the start of the summer hols so that this year it doesn;t take me the first couple of week trying to clear them before we can enjoy the hols properly!
